More than 400 Ukrainian military personnel requested refugee status from Russian border guards on Monday and Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has opened a corridor for the soldiers

438 Ukranian Troops Escape To Russia

“Overnight 438 Ukrainian military personnel turned to Russian border guards with a request for refugee [status],” the head of the FSB’s border control in the southern Russian region of Rostov, Vasily Malaeyev, said.
Border control authorities have opened a humanitarian corridor and have allowed refugees into Russia. Among the 438 personnel, 164 are employees of Ukraine’s State Border Service.
Fierce battles in Ukraine’s southeastern regions have not abated since mid-April when Kiev officials announced the beginning of a special operation against local independence supporters. As a result, many Ukrainian servicemen left their military posts to cross into Russia.
On Sunday, 12 soldiers from the Ukrainian Armed Forces made it into Russia and applied for an asylum at Gukovo checkpoint in Russia’s Rostov Region, saying they had run out of food and ammunition.
Last month, another 40 Ukrainian troops abandoned their military units and asked independence supporters to allow them to come to Russia in order not to fight against their own people.
Ukrainian solders said that they already run water, food and fuel. Ammunition is also running out. There is bad situation with supply which is connected with the large loss of military transport aircraft in Ukrainian armed forces.
Ukrainian mass media and the leaders of the so-called CTO (counter-terrorist operation) didn't report about these facts.
Moreover, the Ukrainian press didn't report about number of military personnel who have received a humanitarian corridor through Russia and now claim that they do not want to fight anymore.

I have also seen reports of several protests against the forced conscription that has been introduced, and against the war itself. Looks like the government in Kiev is losing control of the situation!
I wonder how how they will start putting down protests? Won't look very good if they start beating / shooting protesters in what we are told are areas that are staunch supporters of the government. Maybe though they'll just brand those protesters "terrorists" and shoot them too?

'Russian Propoganda." Laugh my ass OFF! - You Russia haters really must just be foaming at the mouth with this latest development huh? I find it so amusing.

Russia is not the enemy. Do not be a buffoon - a fed sheep simpleton, Kiev is the enemy to these men. Kiev forced these men to turn their rifles onto their brothers and sisters. It also looks like Kiev refused to even feed the damn men while they were forcing them to aim their weapons at their own countrymen. Russia did none of that.

Keep drinking the kool aid buddy.

Now I await the arrival of the serial Russia haters of this site to come here and claim bs. It really makes sense this is happening. What if you were in the armed forces and DC or whoever your government is told you you had to go quell an uprising and kill your fellow countrymen? My bet is you would not be happy about those orders either. It really is not a hard concept at all.

Kiev is losing control, now we await Kiev protests round #2. Bye bye neo nazis.

Forgot to describe my words as sarcasm.

President Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser, Tony Blinken, had this to say at a Washington press conference yesterday:

“Russia bears responsibility for everything that’s going on in Eastern Ukraine, and has the ability to actually de-escalate this crisis”.

EASTERN UKRAINE: MH 17 CRASH theories, and other self-evident nonsense.

Your link is dead. No matter, the story is clearly false: 438 is a classic Potemkin number. A genuine news article would report "over 400," since the number would constantly be changing throughout the day.

Interesting. Despite the fact that the OP did not link to any source, several people instantly believed it and went on the offensive against those who might question it. The precision of the number quoted in the body of the story is still a "tell" that it is fabrication. If you have been following the United States' border problem, you will note that no official ever quotes a specific figure. This is because in the real world, things are in a constant state of flux. On the other hand, propaganda attempts to create the illusion of truth, and uses precise numbers to convey a sense that they have corresponding objects in reality. They do not. McCarthy used the same ploy during his witch hunts.

Yes the numbers are some times telling and are usually not exact . Both sides do it .

More than 15,000 Russian troops have amassed along the border with Ukraine as the Pentagon said Friday it appears Moscow is about to transfer “heavy caliber multiple rocket systems” to pro-Russia separatists.

Reuters cited the U.S. ambassador to NATO

this is already going on since the beginning. many ukraine soldiers deserting and fled to russia to their close family there and some even joined fhe rebel movement.

for a comparison, imagine canada in conflict and some canadian soldiers fled canada to USA because they dont want to follow Canadian goverment's order and they went to america to stay with family or friends..

east ukraine is russia , historically , culturally and of course the people.

whichever side you favor in this conflict, it would be best to get your information not from western mainstream media , as it is proven again and again as goverment unofficial mouthpiece (or is it official??)

just be wary and use your brain's firewall, while the western media unabashedly reporting pure propaganda from the western goverments, the other side also did the same. so take in all information and use your own analysis and logic to filter everything.

How about a real link to the article...

Secondly Ukraine has already stated they are not sure if the unit defected or if it retreated and ended up in Russian territory. They stated a heavy engagement between Ukraine forces and rebels led to one unit being cut off. That cut off unit split itself in half, with one part trying to fight to link up with a second Ukraine unit. The half that remained was to provide cover support for the retreating unit.

The covering unit ran pout of ammo.

What is the link between these 400+ ukrainian soldiers crossing the border and the russian 100 plane drills near that border? I am just wondering how exactly did this border crossing happened... the ukrainians in full weapon gear waved a flag to the russians and said : knock, knock, we were in the neighborhood and we were just wondering if we could give you these tanks and ammo...

Define enemy.

Even US Soldiers "fled" to North Korea during the Korean War and a few still live there to this day.

You miss the point: inexact figures suggest honesty; exact numbers suggest fabrication. Has the FSB issued a list of all the names? Of course not, the spokesman pulled the numbers out of thin air. He was lying.

You can use it a lot on ATS. People seem very keen on saying things like "there are 189 different species of aliens on Earth," or "Dr. X has created a machine that can generate 4,986 watts of electricity using only 0.2659 liters of water."

12 Ukrainian soldiers od the 72nd brigade refused to fight and crossed the border with Russia through the checkpoint "Gukovo" in the Rostov region. According to them, they no longer want to continue the senseless fratricidal war waged by the Ukrainian government. They talk about their commanders who actually betrayed their subordinates.

The second group of the soldiers on August 2., the first 41 came on July 26 from 51nd brigade:

438 today:

Ukrainian soldiers laid down their arms and went to Russia through the checkpoint "Gukovo." "At this moment, we are investigating the reasons why they did it, "- said the representative of the boundary of the FSB of Russia in the Rostov region.
