Microsoft to Slash 18,000 Jobs

Microsoft is going to cut around 18,000 jobs beginning 6 months from now.

They currently employee 125,000 people.

Wonder what the problem is ?

In the meantime, Bill Gates is pressing for more guest-worker visas.

On Thursday, a week after former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates argued for amnesty and for an unlimited number of high-tech guest-worker visas, Microsoft announced it would slash 18,000 jobs.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella promised his employees that "we will go through this process in the most thoughtful and transparent way possible." Analysts told USA Today that the number being let go was "larger than expected."

The "vast majority" of employees will reportedly be notified "within the next six months" and "earn severance and job transition help in many locations." Microsoft employs 125,000 people.

MY OPINIONS:

1. NSA Spying ... ( i.e. Microsoft involvement )

2. Microsoft's Pricing-Model(s) ... ( big-example: MS-Office ).

3. Linux Competition ... ( i.e. an Operating-System-Alternative )

AND

Other-Examples that I would put on the Watch-List are the Traditional-Antivirus-Names/Brands ... ( for the same reasons )

The results in computing will most likely be a bunch of startup companies supporting the Linux-OS ... (i.e. similarly to the days of Microsoft in the 1980s ).

You know your country is in the crapper when....

1. The manufacturing jobs disappear overseas,
2. The tech giants send the jobs overseas,
3. The annoying telemarketers and call centers go overseas,
4. Whatever businesses are left start laying off in huge numbers,
5. Your government hires foreigners to service its citizens.

The icing on the cake is too many wars, on too many fronts.

The next big event, if the collapse don't get here first, will be conjoining Canada, the US and Mexico as a single political corporate entity, it's called corporate restructuring.

That's right. Microsoft is going to dump these people so that they can fill the positions with foreigners.......or it could be that they are cutting the fat from the Nokia Mobile business that they recently picked up.

OS like Menuet64 (totally written in assembler) show how powerful todays CPU's really are when code is optimized for performance. Instead of improving the performance of Windows 7, MS tried to convince users that a common user interface can be used between desktops and tablets.

The market has answered MS by ignoring Windows 8 ... www.w3schools.com... Those that took the plunge downloading third party start buttons in their millions.

Completely agree. I can't stand windows 8, but have come to enjoy Linux.

Still waiting for an answer from others on how the whole foreigner aspect fits in to all this. Perhaps it was another stretch by the goons at Breitbart?

If anyone had been following the news about Microsoft over the past months, they would have learned that Microsoft had just finalized the purchase of Nokia. Nokia is base in Finland, that is where most of the jobs are going to be lost.

I hope this will reduce the pressure on upping the guest-worker visas - plenty should be freed up soon. After all M$ employs a lot of them. Heck even their CEO is one!

Unless this is a scheme to fire the natives and then hire cheaper imported work, on visas. Might explain why Bill Gates wants more of those...

You guys DO realize that Bill Gates is no longer in charge of Microsoft right? Most of Microsoft's really DUMB decisions (many of the design features for xbox1, win 8, microsoft surface, etc) came about after he left.

It's not a scheme by MS or Gates to fire a bunch of people and hire cheaper labor on work visas. What this actually is about is cutting the fat from their Nokia mobile and tablet sections.....but the idiots at Breitbart put out this complete piece of trash article trying to get a specific group of people up in arms over them damn foreigners trying to take their jobs.

Yep everywhere else is reporting this as Nokia staff getting laid off because the Nokia business was failing but just like everything in the U.S. someone always tries to politicise it.
