Having been a sovereign Republic prior to joining the country, Texas is the only state to have joined by treaty.

A Treaty of Annexation, concluded between the United States of America and the Republic of Texas.

Happy to have what weve got, warts and all..,

As has been said, there are still plenty of Americans who do typify what is best about our country and that shows through when its needed.

Now if only we could convince our 'leaders' to follow that example.

Regardless of how much time passes the American people will not forget the part Britain played in creating our nation nor will we forget the other nations that assisted America in growing up.

Had it not been for Britain's goal of colonizing the globe the US never would have demanded independence. Had it not been for the French, and General Lafayette, we would not have won the war.

There are 2 things we can take from the above.
#1 - The sun never set on the British Empire because God does not trust the British in the dark and
#2 - The US is Britain and Frances fault

Your final fact about the US -
While President Obama is the 44th President of the United States, in reality we have only had 43 Presidents. President Grover Cleveland was elected the 22nd President as well as the 24th President. He is the only President to ever serve two terms non consecutively.

Because of that gap, he is counted twice.

This is a cool thread. Another item to add is that Kentucky is listed as a commonwealth instead of a state. Have a happy and safe 4th everyone.

Virginia and Massachusetts are also common wealth not states.
