i was brought up believing in god but when i was old enough to read and use sky digital i woud see documentaries that tell us that our planet was created billions of years ago not 2 thousand ago.
there to many things proveing the god dose not exist but just as many proveing that he does

what do you think!

Personally, I don't think that the age of the earth has anything to do with whether or not YHWH, or any other gods exist.

The one has to do with science, the other with religion. One has to do with what's going on, and the other with why it's going on.

Put another way: Does it diminish God's glory in your eyes if the universe is billions of years old rather than thousands?

im not really aware of any evidence or facts that theres not a God, please, enlighten me. and well, there is evidence for a God, such as the earth, nut doesnt mean God exist. and these "documentaries" that say the earth is billions of years old are only theories anyway, and the big bang just says hydrogen exploded, casing planets to form perfect with gravity, and how was gravity formed? doesnt quite fill in a lot of questions. and according to science, anything with the chances of 1 in 1.0X10 to the 40th power is declared impossible.
thus, scientifically impossible. the exact DNA matches in cells wasnt discovered till the 80's, which a single cell in DNA has over a 1 with 260 following it matches and it needs to find the correct 2 pairs of matches to alter the cell, so the chances of the trillions of cells in your body finding the right matches to alter the DNA to form a new species is scientifically impossible, let alone just one cell. not that anything thats "scientifically impossible" cant be done, but id rather not waste my time beliveing in scientifically impossible things such as evolution and the big bang, and the chances of evolution happenign are so little, that if u could write out a billion zeros a second, it would take a few million years to complete the number
now, before some come out and attack that, look it up on the internet and see for yerself, and use logic for heavens sake. the chances arent 50/50 obviously, and they arent 1 outta a 100, and much more than 1.0X10 to the 40th power of all this poppin up from a bunch of hydrogen in the space

Absence of proof does not equate to proof of absence.

and well, there is evidence for a God, such as the earth,

Just because my socks keep disappearing in the dryer does not prove that there are sock gnomes just as simply because the Earth appears to be flat to the naked eye does not mean that it is.

and these "documentaries" that say the earth is billions of years old are only theories anyway

Funny! The same thing could be said about the bible.

I guess it kind of frustrates me to see people who equate scientific thinking with a refutation of God, as one of the above posters seems to.

Science does not seek to find an alternate explanation to God. It does not seek to prove that God doesn't exist. Science attempts to describe the physical universe in which we live, without making moral judgements about it. Science doesn't address the question of God's existence, because it's not something that science can touch, he is not quantifiable by human means, and so science ignores God.

Again, does it diminish God's glory if he created the Earth 6 trillion years ago rather than 6000? Does it diminish God's glory if the sun shines because the fusion of hydrogen atoms into helium? Does it diminish God's glory if the Internet works because of logic and electromagnetic principles rathern than Internet Gnomes who work for pornography?

If it does, I think that you need to ask yourself why you think that God is so small and weak. I think that you're looking so hard for a "magical" miracle, such as the transubstantiation of water into wine, that you miss the "mundane" miracle of the transubstantiation of sunlight into wine through the "boring" processes of photosynthesis and fermentation.

Sure there are some scientists who claim that God is a lie. There are jerks in every group, and science is no exception to this. Most, however, are simply trying to understand the processes by which this universe works, whether it was spawned by God or chance.

Wow, bravo. No matter how many times I say it, nobody ever listens. Science doesnt even touch the subject of "God." Why is that so hard to understand? This should be a frickin sticky.

I think the best analogy I've heard was: "Using science to try to prove or disprove the existance God is like using chemistry to prove or disprove the existance of words."

Does god exsist?
well im 16 am i am currently in a christian high skool.
yet i do no believe god exsist
My believe is that God along with all Gods in montheistic or polytheistic religions where created to explain how the world work and how we came to be.
For example. two thousand years ago everyone believe in some sort/sorts of creator? Ofcorse you believed this because there wasnt anything else to believe.

But now we have new theories with evidence that indicated that we arent in the centre or the universe, we arent in the centre of the galaxy, we arent in the centre of the solar system... etc... If scientific evidence pointed towards us being in the middle of the universe, I would be sure without dout that there was a all mighty creator. if you get where im coming from...
But now we dont need religion to explain how things are, but we have little bits of evidence here and there how this could of happened without a god based explanation

i strong believe to that alot of people did/do believe in religion because they want more meaning to there life and are just to scared to come to the fact that we are just here by chance. And that alot of people are scared of death and want so hard to believe in religion so they can try and live their live without depression of lost loves one and when they finally bit the dust.

i have been educated scientifically and religiously. and i would take a science text book rather than a bible

It isn't about that at all. You see, christians find their God through the bible. They truly believe in the words of the bible, and the stories that are told. It is VERY significant to them when you have scientific evidence to rule out creationism. When you can say "hey, the bible is definitely wrong here", they are offended and lash out like mindless sheep following a blind sheapard off of a cliff. The earth way older than is described in the Bible. That is significant to christians.

Now, for a person who truly believes in God...should that have a bearing? No. Science can only go so far. There are questions that our minds cant comprehend. That leaves plenty of room for God.
