As the title say's N.A.T.O scrambled from Estonia to intercept two Russian fighter jets in Lithuanian airspace. Russia is testing N.A.T.O's resolve and reaction time. Also some Naval tensions in the Baltic, as Russia interfers with civilian vessels in Lithuanian waters.

Many claimed this issue is cooling, far from it.Russia must be far from happy with events in Ukraine yesterday. The military assault on Dontesk and the killing of civilians yesterday in Slavyansk, when the Ukraine military shelled civilian appartment buildings.Russia has sat back, and let Ukraine have it's election without interferance and watched for the resulting of actions, to give them justification. Within hours, the incomming President Elect, declared his intensions, to reclaim Dontesk, Lugansk and wait for it.... Crimea. Yes Crimea! That is pretty bold. I think that will be the line in the sand for all out war.

Well the Crimea referendum was illegal... Tbh Russia should keeps its nose out off Ukraine's business and let Ukraine decided its own future

As for Crimea, a Legal UN backed referendum with international peace keepers and observers must take place for it to gold any credibility in the international community... The elections was without question rigged and illegitimate

Russia can buzz NATO all she likes tbh... Russia will just creat another arms race she cannot win

All in in all... I think the best way to deal with Russia is to let Russia sulk in the corner like a child

Those Russians are sure burning a lot of jet fuel in order to prove they are still relevant as a world power of late. The press is wasting a lot of e-ink in order to foster the required mythos for international confrontation in cooperation with the Russians.

I think escorts out of airspace should end and be replaced with one warning before missile are fired at the intruder.

Russia's only aircraft carrier apparently, according to uninformed media, crossed into a NATO members "territorial waters". To end that here and now the 200 mile EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) is not territorial waters and freedom of navigation is guaranteed (air and naval).

If Putin is torqued at NATO because of his self dreamed policy of former SSRs not being allowed to join NATO how does his idiotic actions, sending military assets into neighboring territory, help him out?

Is he really wanting NATO nations that border Russia to begin hosting NATO bases and military assets?

Putin is just playing good old cold war games. Like little kids purposefully bumping each other in the playground.

A lot of you weren't around for the cold war days. This is nothing new.

Except for Putin constantly stating he is not returning to the cold war and rejects any suggestion he is. However I guess we can put that into perspective since he also stated he would not annex Crimea.

If a NATO member violated Russia airspace I doubt there would be any warnings from Russia.

How exactly was the referendum in Crimea illegal? Crimea was an autonomous region and voted to join Russia. Crimea is now part of Russia. What was illegal was the US sponsored coup that overthrew the legitimate democratically elected leader of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovich. He did not resign. He is still alive. He was not impeached and convicted in a trial. Therefore, Viktor Yanukovich is still the President of Ukraine. Everything that is happening in Kiev is illegal and will be corrected. Just because the United States spends $5 billion to fund NGOs to supply weapons to terrorists to murder police and force a democratically elected leader to flee to Russia doesn't mean that the new puppets they put in place are legitimate. The US coup in Ukraine has failed. Crimea has joined Russia. Lugansk and Donetsk have formed a new republic, Novorussia. The US coup has done nothing but enlarge Russia and turn Ukraine into two smaller countries. The Kiev portion of Ukraine will not last long as a US colony. Eventually there will be a revolution there as well.

Erm...this is the headline from zerohedge....

NATO Scrambles F-16 Jets Over Lithuania After Russian Warplanes Allegedly Enter Airspace

Note the bolded bit please.

It wasn't that long ago, about 6 weeks when a storm in a tea cup started over Russia so called invading UK air space....which they didn't and never have done.........EVER. Yes we sent up Typhoons I think it was....but this is totally acceptable interception....it's been going on for more years than I care to remember.....and like another member here who posted, I am well old enough to remember all this tit for tatting.

What is NOT reported in western press so much is how we do it up to Russian air space all the time too to 'test' them.
It all boils down to 'boys and their toys', and who can p**s up the wall the highest.

I like how you say Russia has sat back and let things run its course. LOL please! it's a war by proxy... US paid fighters and Russian paid/supplied groups sent in to destabilize the country

By no means is Russia a innocent onlooker...

Good for the Ukraine on fighting back and kicking those pro-russian militant groups butts...now we can hope they turn around and do the same for the U.S. backed forces causing problems in the country next.

Sounds like propaganda to me. The people running things want us to be concerned about Russia so we back our governments. Just another fear tactic. It it makes two percent of the citizens more attached to their governments, than they are pleased.

Since when has this become so easy to see. Is it just that I have become more learned in the subject or are they getting worse at hiding it?

My ex-brother in law flat out told me that was all the US really did with the sub fleet was espionage with countries like Russia, China, The Koreas, etc. And I highly doubt they were always in international waters...

As long as they are spending money...than yes. He wants as much of the West spending as much as possible.

It should be noted that you mean the attack sub fleet. Ballistic missile boats go out and "patrol" awaiting the launch command no where near enemy coast

Most of the time they do get missile lock on them to scare them away faster.

Every day there's new video emerging of Ukrainian aircraft bombarding people in Eastern Ukraine.

There's talk of Russia enforcing a no-fly zone over east Ukraine.

I say do it. Break the spine of these genocidal war criminals! Their NATO-backed war crimes are well documented. NATO has zero legitimacy to disagree, especially after the so-called NFZ over Libya...

The Russian airforce would not be able to maintain a no fly zone for much beyond a couple weeks. The Russian airforce was a hot mess in Georgia and Ukraine has much better air defenses.

"Ukraine has much better air defenses"? Than Georgia, sure, but you do know that pretty much all of Ukraine's military equipment came from Russia and much of it is left over from the Cold War era. To think that Russia would have much trouble with Ukraine's air defenses is a bit of a stretch.

Russias air force would be succeptable to shoulder launched AA missiles.....their helicopters too would be in harms way...

They were very vulnerable in Georgia and when your airforce is mostly left over from the Cold War then a cold war air defense can cause severe problems. Trying to main a no fly zone would cost them aircraft far more than what they would want to sustain. It is kind of ironic the air defense weapons that caused the Russian losses in Georgia were sold to them by Ukraine.
