I think we're going to be able to pull off this weekend plus the weather will be nice and cool at night. The husband will sleep in the tent and I will decide when we get there whether tent or back of the SUV with the dog. At barely 5ft tall it's quite roomy for me even with the dog back there.
In the past I did the tent camping a lot but these days I have to be honest and say I'm a hotel/room service/air conditioning kind of gal.
The 2nd trip I'd vote for late September.
p.s. We'll bring some decent camera and video equipment and the FLIR (just for fun to see what's creeping around the grounds at night)

My friend, NC is an outdoorsman's PARADISE. TONS of fishing, camping and everything else!!!
Found this website about where to view:
See the LIghts

I'm thinking the Blue Ridge Parkway spot is the best view, what do you all think?

According to the site you linked the Blue Ridge Parkway area may have some blocked viewing.

The Blue Ridge Parkway has a marked viewing site at the Lost Cove overlook, located at the 310 mileage marker. The view is of Brown Mountain itself, but vegetation has encroached upon the view.

Wisemans View sounds a bit more promising.

You don't happen to know where Joshua P. Warren did his investigation from do you?

Okay looking a bit further I found a pdf from Joshua called "Brown Mountain Lights Viewing Guide" and he claims the best sightings are from Wisemans View.

Even though Brown Mountain has become the focus of observation, they could more appropriately be called the “Linville Lights,” since the phenomenon has been reported throughout the area, especially in and around the Linville Gorge, most often witnessed from Wiseman’s View.

Sorry I was assuming you may have heard of him. He is a local paranormal investigator around Asheville.

Hello and great idea putting this together. I can't get down there for trip #1, but I REALLY want to go a little later, like you said, around June.

Since the sightings occur prominently from September-December, should it be planned for then?

Okay, 2 for Wiseman's view, any other votes?

I haven't finished the other AMA thread yet, but is there a reason we couldn't get onto the mountain itself?

If I'm driving 8 hours to NC, I want to be up close and personal

You can't see them unless you're a bit far I believe
That being said, the planned September trip can have us on the mountain itself!

I meant to ask you, what media do your cameras record on? If it's an SD or USB, I'd love the footage to put into a video

I'm usually free Thanksgiving weekend & I know most aren't
but thought I would throw that out.

Also I'm pretty free in July & Aug as it's too
hot for dog trials around here so that would work
for me too.

I get where you are coming from with your extremely generous
prize for us at BTS Avatar Creations...you are at shows with a booth!
Got you sister & I hope you do well!

I think we will eventually get something going on. I LOVE fishing & the
outdoors & also enjoy cooking & I do not let things slide cause we're outside...
meaning I still bring the fresh flavors...so I don't mind helping you & learning
your ropes! I would be more than honored!

Cheers
Ektar
PS I am still so thankful for you pushing me into Lipo C!

The name isn't TDawgRex for nothing.

I have a affinity for Dawgs.

But I think it would be a great time. For both you, your family and the Dawgs.

(BTW, I do have a good memory. Not great,,,but good)

I could be there in 6-8 hours traffic dependent. I can usually make Ft. Bragg in 8 hours from Cleveland, so I figure 6-8 hours through the back roads.

I'm in for September. Gotta plan a little ahead because my 13 yr. old son new about all this, the movie, everything, so I can't go without him of course! I'll be coming down from south jersey, take us about 10-11 hours, dates, meeting place....plenty of time to nail all that down. Looking forward to meeting fellow posters I've been posting with for 5 years! WOW, HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG?! Looking forward to it, so between now & September, we can start collecting decent investigative tools we can use.....what a great adventure!
