And what about the other observers? And what about the ~10 first-hand reports of Ukrainian (!) friends I have received? They surely are no Putin wannabes! It was very calm before, during and after the referendum!

The ones who on camera claimed that they had not seen any military in crimea? Completely ignoring thousands upon thousands of videos proving them wrong. And your friends are irrelevant. It was so calm that peacefull supporters of Ukraine were beaten. On camera. And murdered. Press continously harrassed and items seized just like any "democratic" paradise. Peacefull my ass.

I was referring to the referendum. No armed military at or near the voting boothes. If you have proof or reports otherwise, show me please.

I think we are in 1938/39 all over again.. so the question is what do we do.
let him make his move or move against him.

Just waiting for him to set up the gas chambers to eructate all the gays... seems he is on that path...rather eerie of how it all seems to mirror Germany 1938...

These days gas chambers and concentration camps do not exist. Other nations will put so much pressure even upto military involvement that having such 'evil tools' would become a definite sentence in International Courts at Hague.

However, this is my reading of current status in Ukraine. Putin's army will be parked at the Uks border for sometime now. This is to influence elections in Ukraine to be held in May. If the Right Wing type parties and individuals take to power, then Russia will instigate problems in SE regions. Mass protests leading to seizure of government buildings and daily institutions that run any society like police stations, TV stations, hospitals, supermarkets etc. Any firm police action from Kiev will result in Russian Army crossing the border to protect the Russian people. Rest will be referendum and breakaway of Ukraine into two easy parts.

Will similar events happen in other republics.....No !! Ukraine has very strategic value. Other areas where Silovikis are interested in are Belarus and Khazakstan and these both countries will themselves form a union or Customs Union with Russia at a short notice. Putin is not interested in hostile areas like Baltics, Georgia, Azerberjian etc. These areas are a liability in terms of finances and state's resources.

Eurasian Customs Union, THE ECU is the agenda on the table. Once chosen ex-soviet republics join in other nations like Iran, China, India will be also invited for mutually beneficial business relationships.

Putin's idea of making Crimea duty free zone goes very well with the tourism attraction of the place. Instead of going to Finland, Russians will be visiting Crimea more often to relax on the beaches and gobble up loads of duty free goods. To this add 4-5 attractions like DisneyLand, Mega Zoo or similar themes and Crimea becomes a famous vacation destination for rich Asians also.

That's possible. As weak and ineffectual as the EU has become, it's possible. But honestly, I doubt it. I think the Ukraine has become the modern day Czechoslovakia. A country sacrificed to keep the Russians happy. Similar pretense, too. But Finland, I think, would become a modern day Poland if Invaded. Sort of the line drawn in the sand. Russia might justify incursions into the Eastern Ukraine and Crimea because of the number of Russians living there, as well as having owned the Ukraine in the recent past. Putin can make no such claims for Finland.

Time will tell.

"Illarionov is one of the 34 first signatories of the online anti-Putin manifesto "Putin must go", published on March 10, 2010."

obviusly this so called ex-advisor has an old grudge with Vladimir Putin.

also

"In October 2006, Illarionov was appointed senior researcher of the Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity of the US libertarian think tank Cato Institute in Washington, DC.[6] In this position, he has lamented "[Russia's] new corporate state in which state-owned enterprises are governed by personal interests and private corporations have become subject to arbitrary intervention to serve state interests"[7] as well as "new ways in which political, economic and civil liberties are being eliminated."[8]"

How dare they make Private Corporations subservient to the state! The corporations should be running the show, like they do in the West and fleecing everyone!

Yawn...All these folks comparing Russia to Germany and the Nazi's and their invasion....You all are dreaming if you think Putin will make a move on Finland. Russia is going to accept the Crimea and move on, not invade all of Europe as you warmongers are so desperately hoping for in order to vindicate the total mess the US has created in the Ukraine. Not going to happen.

NO buildup of Russian forces at Ukrainian Border

Look above. A MSM article right there, pretty much conflicts what the US and NATO commanders are saying about this massive invasion force that supposedly is preparing. Because there is not one.

Putin had humble beginnings before he joined the KGB.
Care to explain to us how he became a Multi Billionaire?

It's not private corporations that are Fleecing Russians , it's their
Glorious leaders..

From KGB officer to multi Billionaire..

LOL go do some reading please.

Sorry, I had no idea you had personal access to Mr. Putin's bank accounts! Care to show us all where those bank accounts are and how much exactly he has in them? Or, is this just another bit of unverified (unverifiable!) nonsense dreamed up by opponents?
There is so much reported these days, a lot from anonymous sources, that neither provides proof or allows for questioning. Any attempt at questioning the dubious info usually gets one branded a supporter of this or that person or state. Verifiable proof of something is the only evidence that matters, not hearsay, innuendo or rumour.

Next you'll be saying that Russia has been massing troops on the Ukrainian border!

That seems all too likely doesn't it?

The EU seems, from this outsiders perspective, terrified of Putin.

What's your opinion on Gary Kasparov... a man who has never worked for Putin,
has no axe to grind other than his experience of living in Russia under Putin's regime.

Now one things for sure here.. Gary Kasparov is a Grand master chess player arguably the
Worlds best ever player.. so I am sure he has used reason and logic coming to his conclusions
about Vladimir Putin.
He is one of the leading voices on the removal of Putin.

Go and find what Kasparov and his friends have to say about the billions that Putin has amassed
and whether or not Putin is a Dictator or not.

People get branded a supporter when they defend the actions of the person .. by any definition that is supporting them.

Now that's an interesting question.

Kasparov has always struck me as an extremely bright guy. As a very vocal opponant of Putin, he must have seen something, or several somethings, that bother him.

While in Ukraine and many other countries, you have armed people( or terrorists) with guns fighting against police?
edit on 29-3-2014 by Nikola014 because: (no reason given)

Yes armed people not terrorist who were attempting to remove the corrupt Russian backed leader who had been impeached TWICE but would not leave office. He was protected by the police who would not do their jobs and remove him after a long peaceful and then violent protest so they had no other choice. The second he left for Russia he was automatically out of power cause he already was legally.

Yes their are some Nazis in any country but saying this is a fascist or Nazi take over is ridiculous. Especially when you ignore the thousands of people protesting in one city square peacefully for a month before hand. It is more plausible that Russia started the shooting in the protest to take all of Ukraine so it could never fall to NATO.

Only because the morons let him be their main supplier of gas and oil. That is it in a nutshell. During the cold war it was not that way, people were scared of nukes flying but would stand up to Russia. Obama is a joke and just needs to shut up and go back to Kenya. The whole Congress is a joke as well for not forcing Obama to leave after this, the removal of the missile shield in Europe and how he is dissembling our military when WW3 looks imminent.

Let alone him not doing one dam thing right in 7 years and going on vacation every other week costing us a billion dollars that could support all the homeless in this country and do other good things.

D.C., Throw the bum out !!!!!

I haven't done my homework on mr Kasparov.

My point with my earlier reply was not to praise Putin.
It was to out mr Illarionov's personal grudge with him.

The west vs Russia is like 2 little girls talking behind each others backs.
And we all know it.

The last long lasting Russian-Chechen war did have extremely disturbing news about mass graves, Chernokozovo detention center. There may be a linguisticall dispute, is it a "concentration camp", or how it's officially called "filtration point", or something different? The history of it goes right into this age. It's highly relevant considering recent events in Ukraine. Results of elections had a tendency to change after short Russian-Georgian 2008 war, so the "fear" was working in favor of certain politicians offering "peace", better "resource prices" and overall "better relations" with "the big neighbor".
Not many do know that even famous Sochi is in former lands of now gone Circassia, to be more exact, "supposed" site of the final Circassian expulsion.
The fear or concerns about things that may happen among certain populations is significant and can be easily seen on MSM without much explanation or details. There's only a question how well informed are people living in Finland about things happening right across the border.
