I must admit that I am attracted to it as much as everybody else. But why? Is it the sense of adventure of what it could bring?

Doom porn really has a grip on today’s society, There are all sorts of Movies and TV shows out there that have a serious following.

I think that I am attracted to it, though still skeptical, because it makes me think. And my imagination can run wild at times, though I like to think I can keep a lid on it.

But then again, you have those who are die-hards. From religious fanatics to hucksters.

Crap…I’m a Doom Porn addict. After all, for the most part, it's always interesting and making me think.

Doom porn here is great fun.

- It tantalizes.
- It's like a roller coaster ... up and down ... spooky with a safe landing.
- Deep down we know the doom porn never happens.
- Everyone secretly likes to mock that which is stupid. It makes us feel superior.

Doom porn out in the rest of the world can be dangerous.
People can get wrapped up in it and believe it.
Here ... we've seen enough of it to know it's a genre that is just entertainment.
But 'out there' ... in the world ... I can see how it can get out of hand.
Especially the religious doom porn ... 'messages from heaven' that never materialize.
Those are dangerous ... spiritually and emotionally dangerous.

I put it down to everyone acknowledging that the world isnt the peach it should be by now with power and wealth all messed up etc and they secretly crave a "reset" button for humanity.

Thats my two pence.

Being a history buff, I have read all about the doom porn of the past. And there is a part of me that ask why people are so gullible.

Yes, an asteroid could end life as we know it.
Yes, a war could end life as we know it.
Yes, an earthquake or volcano could end life as we know it.

Ecetera, ecetara…

But that is all part of life. It seems to me that society has fixated upon it. Kinda weird, don’t you think?

Doom porn is both fun and conflicting - it allows me to reflect on the inevitability of Death - and the possibility that I might go out with a mad apocalyptic bang......BUT I can always be saved if I do x,y and z and (sometimes) a request to part with cash
[insert roll-eyes emoticon]

S&F for giving me a doom-porn hit!

It has always been there, all through our history.

Viking raiders, the Greeks are coming, the Romans, the Gods are angry, sacrifice some virgins.

We are concerned by what we have no hope of controlling.

Fear has always been used against the masses.

The problem is that mixed up in the doom porn are real events that were warned of. The Vikings did come. So did the Romans. So did Khan and Hitler.

We are frightened of major events that will stuff up our lives. Some just put it out of mind. Some prepare as best they can. We all want to talk about it. The more that are prepared the better off we will all be. Those that are in constant denial are too afraid to face reality.

The current empire will collapse, history speaks to us and is never wrong. So we talk and plan or we deny and perish.

Such is life and such is death.

Yes, some want a different life because the one they have sucks.

Some want excitement from a dreary world while others believe that mankind needs a reset.

Where Oh Where is The Age of Aquarius.

The good thing about doom porn is, it's in many cases if not all, turned in to movies or books.

And they can be somehow intertaining, if there is a good director or story writer behind.

Why not?

For me, it fires my imagination. I love reading about different scenarios, wondering how certain people in my life would react to them, and figuring out which ones would never survive, who would thrive, ect.

But then again I do the same thing, with surprise happy things, like having a million, giving a million to someone, all kinds of stuff.

I have a bit of an over active imagination.

So yeah, bring on the doom porn.

It is a Human Nature to "care" for it
but with the Internet we experience a over-saturation with
this Information which led to a De-Sensibilisation
and a higher Demand for "Doom-Porn",
it is the same like we see in sexual Porn!

I think there is a simple answer to all this doom porn business and for those of us who remember the old Twilight Zone episodes, I can best sum it up with a theme that played more than once in those.

I think deep down inside and where it's kept largely hidden, we'd all secretly like to be that 'last guy on Earth' or at least within reasonable distance to matter. Of course, that happy go lucky outlook falls flat pretty quick in any thinking through of where that all leads soon enough ...but who couldn't see the initial thrill of the modern world stocked and working ..for a short time.. with all for the taking and no law in your lifetime again to be concerned with breaking for it.

I think..somewhere..that is the root of a good part of the Doom Porn fascination.

(Dr. Wrabbit goes off to prepare a bill now with lots of 0's for the analysis.

The problem with doom porn is where is the action? did they forget to hire the actors? is the camera even working?
Fascination with death is what creates most peoples BS stories in my opinion. I used to love reading about them in 2011, I honestly get caught up in the 2012 hype, I can go as far as saying I embarrassed myself to my family about it.

Nowadays my reaction to doom porn is best described in this .gif

S/F thanks for the question.

The entire Torah,Bible, and Koran ( for example ) are Doom Porn, IMHO. Well, much of them , anyway...

People just can't seem to look away ( myself included , at times ). Your great question seems ( to me ) to be one for the shrinks.

Doom Porn has been around a long while , I'm afraid.

Other than that ... I don't know.

After reading the responses (Thanks Guys!) I'm thinking that Doom Porn is contected to that segment of our imagination that says, "What if [insert scaenario here]". It fires up though old daydream and in some cases nightmare synapsus. Most times it's fun and harmless, but some people get caught up in it and take it to far.

It's also become so commonplace these days in books, movies, TV, um, er, here, that often I don't even notice it as Doom Porn.

It appeals to people who don't feel any danger in their day to day lives- for exactly the same reason, in fact, that they take terrifying rides at fairgrounds. In the absence of genuine danger, they enjoy the sense of fake danger.
A couple of years ago, when there was talk of some asteroid crashing down on the earth, I read a post on this site something like "I would love that to happen, but I don't suppose it will". Amazing. Obviously not able to conceive what the reality of that would be like. It would be just an entertaining event which would relieve their sense of boredom.
If anything ominous really started happening, "doom porn" would vanish.
