How Long Before Real Estate Prices Crash Due to Fukushima Radiation?

I just talked to my aunt who lives in San Diego; she seems to think that things are heating up there real estate wise; that for a while there after 2008, there were numerous lots in her development that were for sale but now only 2 or 3; and the prices are rising.

Meanwhile, I look at the radiation maps and on any given day, San Diego as well as a lot of other places are apparently being clobbered with pretty high rad rates; 382 right now as I look at SD, compared to a low of 13 in Tualatin, OR, two states further north.

netc

For those who aren't familiar with that map, the 'alert' colors show where the count has increased lately, not the aggregate count themselves; some of the green icons will be very high indeed including just to the east of Fukushima itself which has eyeboggling counts if you hit on the right spot, and normal ones a few miles away. I'm aware that there is controversy surrounding these privately generated rad maps, so maybe could we avoid some thread drift on that issue?

So how long before the sheeples start realizing they're living in a glow in the dark zone and try selling off their real estate? How long before Hawaii and the west coast start having a bloodbath of fire sales with precious few buyers? And what's this foretell for global northern hemisphere real estate prices for the foreseeable future?

The price of real estate will go up in areas that will likely not be effected and also areas that are far from Nuclear plants in the future. The areas with high levels will drop down a lot probably, that will be a good time to buy in those areas, at a penny on the dollar. Maybe my great grandchildren will be rich then.

Trouble is, the longer you follow those maps, the clearer it is to see that the radiation is going almost everywhere; it just moves around depending on weather patterns. Last week the midwest was getting clobbered.

It seems to be staying high along the western coastline of the US though, which has some pretty high real estate prices; also Hawaii.

Gotta agree it will spread

Dont fathom people paying any less on the west coast! =D

I'm not sure this is just from Fuki. There could also be something else going on behind the scene that they are not telling us. There can be radioactive particles coming from a volcanic eruption also, There could be some coming from a mining project, even fracking can cause an uptick in an area. I am sure that they will raise the safety limit on radiation when it rises everywhere to cover up the problem.

Sealife seems to be distressed/dying in boards on the west coast

I dont think west coasters will take a hint- is it worth leaving the hollywood lifestyle/dream?

more than any of doom porn topic " radiation scares " largely consist of a circle jerk of the wilfully gullible being spoon fed utter Shiite by the wilfully dishonesty

with none of them having any real understanding of the science

there should not be a real estate crash due to " radiation " - but there are enough idiots out there to make one happen

all I can say - is if someone tells you that your £500k property is only worth 2k because of " radiation " - but as they are so nice - they will give you 3k in CASH if you sign the deed today

just stop and wonder - why ?

if the BLS figures are taken as factual & true...... there no inflation, the economic recovery is full steam

then it will be years before the there's any hint that the MSM is aiding the gov't propaganda macjhine in covering up the fallout from Fukushima

i guess the super wealthy, those selling $25-$100 million properties out there in CA will be the on the forefront... when they begin enclosing the properties in domes or bubbles much like a bio-sphere containment thing..
then the cat will be out of the bag

think about it... some people are stubborn.... theres one family still not getting out of the Bayou Corne sinkhole area even after 2 years of actual destruction... they are holding on to the property & not selling even though its in the evacuation/condemnation zone
So what will the San Francisco...LA residents do? migrate to greener pastures !?? i doubt it

they will live out their expected life expectancy even in a low radiation environment...besides there's radon seeping into the basements already... whats a little more stronsium 90 (or whatever that radiation vapor is)

Hard to make sense of your post, but are you saying the radiation from Fukushima is imaginary? That it won't spread to other locales?

And I'm not suggesting that RE speculation (offering lowball prices to sellers) might not happen, but the more real likelihood may just be, wanting to get out and not finding any sellers at all... and this in places where finding a house at all for under 500K US$ is nearly impossible at this juncture.

They already long ago raised the radiation safety level; right after 3-11-11 as a matter of fact. The counts seen in the various on-line sources are private individuals reporting in from their private (and possibly not accurate) Geiger counters.

I don't think volcanic eruptions contribute all that much to radiation levels; certainly not more than the usual background, since we've always had volcanic eruptions but Fukushima is unprecedented.

You look at that map involving the predicted flow of radiation over time, and you know what jumps out?!

BRIGHT SCARY RED COLOR!!!

OMG, REEEDD!!

Does anyone have a clue what the color differences indicate, exactly?

As in, does the highest value on that scale indicate something truly dangerous, or is the ceiling value perhaps lowered in order to ... perhaps cause fear, panic, and increased attention... so that groups of parasites could capitalize off your fears?

Something to consider.

I don't think 3-5 times background is anything to be much concerned about. 1000x? Now you're getting somewhere. Can someone show me where there's a prediction of thousands or greater times the background rate, predicted to head towards the coast in the US?

I have yet to see this.

Until then, fear may very well cause price fluctuations, and the gullible will panic-sell their houses below value as it drops... the intelligent chaps will gobble them up, wait for the panic to settle, and resale after the value has stabilized back to where it was.

Don't be fooled, ppl.

As I commented in the OP, the darker colors indicate a recent CHANGE for the worse in the rad counts; you can go over to Japan and the nice green 'good' color will be a very high count, because it hasn't changed lately.

Click around on the different colors and you'll see the counts; Wyoming is getting clobbered, as is San Diego and Reno. The lowest count is up in rural western Canada.

And yeah, without an agreed-upon rating system, it's hard to make sense of.

I'd be more worried about the US dollar than radiation when it comes to investments in real estate. Also the future radioactive levels is very hard to anticipate not to say anticipate the time it will become obvious ( and at that moment the sheeple will react to it ).

Have a look at what this guy writes about radioactive groundwater sipping into the ocean fukushima-diary.com...

Even though there is the green RadCon1 normal I icon, the levels at the Fukushima Dai-ichi are currently at 142,000! Compare that to Eureka, CA(currently RadCon4 concern/watch) at 226.

I'm starting to loose sleep over this. It is surreal what is happening.

We the public will be kept in the dark.

It will never have any impact on any real estate prices anywhere outside of Japan.

As this spreads, and the effects become so apparent that the offical BS story is uncovered for all to see, real estate will not have any value from ever expanding contaminated mass. In other words, watch for the signs. We cannot trust the spoonfed lies so dominant in our lives. GE designed this garbage, they own media and some government crooks, tepco will save face till the CEO keels over from molecular saturation. Until they completely stop the bleeding, and monitor the dissapation, there lies anyones guess, half life of this crap is somewhere around a thousand years, but market value of real estate is what some idiot will pay for it....just watch for the signs...
