How much do you know about religion?

And how do you compare with the average American? Here's your chance to find out.

Take our short, 15-question quiz, and see how you do in comparison with 3,412 randomly sampled adults who were asked these and other questions in the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey. This national poll was conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life from May 19 through June 6, 2010*, on landlines and cell phones, in English and Spanish.

When you finish the quiz, you will be able to compare your knowledge of religion with participants in the national telephone poll. You can see how you compare with the overall population as well as with people of various religious traditions, people who attend worship services frequently or less often, men and women, and college graduates as well as those who did not attend college.

For a full analysis of the findings of the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey, read the full report.

Here ya go, guys and gals!! How much do you really know about religion?
I scored an 87% ... missed two questions, but can't recall at the moment which ones they were....I'll go back and look, but meanwhile - go for it!

ETA: I just retook it and got 100%, and honestly don't remember which one/s I missed before.

Fun quiz.
My score - "You answered 14 out of 15 questions correctly for a score of 93%."

I'm looking for where it says which question I missed. I can't find it.
I'm betting it was the one asking names. I kinda guessed on that one)
(I wont' say anymore than that so I don't spoil it.)

I suspected you would!! Keep poking around, there's a chart showing a bell curve...we are in the top 2%.
Granted, it wasn't a huge survey, but still - nice to know all our independent study is worthwhile.

Seems like last time I took it there was the 32-question option, which is what the bell curve is measuring.
I missed 2 out of the 32 I think - but now, I can't find the longer questionnaire. I'll keep looking....

SEE OP, I FOUND IT!

Not too bad (for an agnostic.)

"You answered 14 out of 15 questions correctly for a score of 93%."

Now I feel smarter...

Yes, in fact, it turns out atheists and agnostics know more than the average believer.
Pew Forum Religious Knowledge Survey: Atheists, Agnostics Score Highest

On average, Americans correctly answer 16 of the 32 religious knowledge questions on the survey. Atheists and agnostics average 20.9 correct answers. Jews and Mormons do about as well, averaging 20.5 and 20.3 correct answers, respectively. Protestants as a whole average 16 correct answers; Catholics as a whole, 14.7. Atheists and agnostics, Jews and Mormons perform better than other groups on the survey even after controlling for different levels of education.

How did I know someone would challenge me on that!

I believe I did take the longer one and got 34 out of 36, but I've cleared my cache since then and can't find the longer one yet. I'll keep looking.

recheck the OP, guys - I did find the longer version, and took it again.
I missed the question on Maimonides (I thought this 15-q version was too short!!)

97% correct on the 32-q version.

I missed the same question, never heard of the guy and, in looking into him, I'm not sure why I would have.

Otherwise, everything correct, so 31/32

Why are...

...there so many...

...quizzes about religion?

Someday we'll find it. The religion connection.

The lovers, the dreamers, and me!

I got roughly the same as the short version. 88%. Missed some names and such.

Fun, but I feel that facts and quizzes are no way to measure religious knowledge. Measure in love.

Mmmm. Okay, I thought of a response for this.

How 'bout:
Religious "Knowledge" = competency in basics of all major world religions (including one's own)

and
Religious "Sentiment" = measuring in love.

Will that work??
