Typhoons that hit Japan each year are helping spread radioactive material from the Fukushima nuclear disaster into the country's waterways, researchers say. Contaminated soil gets washed away by the high winds and rain and deposited in streams and rivers, a joint study by France's Climate and Environmental Science laboratory (LSCE) and Tsukuba University in Japan showed.

Makes sense to me..... there are a lot of interactions with radioactivity that we never think about.... like in my other thread.... birds eating radioactive food and then flying off to drop dirty bombs on cars and what not

Personally I worry about in my own home.

I dropped a dirty bomb this morning and the mrs. swears it was radioactive.

well at least typhoons are spreading the radioactivity out making it less intense, diluting it in a sense?

Not only but heavy wave action stirs sea bottom sediments that are carried ashore and deposited. Also borne away on ocean currents to settle elsewhere. The ocean spray from wind swept waves is carried far inland. At the height of a storm the surf pounds the shore, storm surge sweeps inland, and heavy winds carry even further.

Typhoons are good mixers of the environment and anything in that environment.

Not diluting, dispersing. Radioactive elements don't dilute into the environment any more than grains of sand.

No matter how far they carry from the plant, radioactive contamination is just as radioactive as it was in the melted cores.

The only thing that diminishes radioactivity is decay over time.

Just a few Days ago i needed to visit Hitachi,
which is less than south 100 Km away from our Problem Plant,
in between Tokyo and Daiichi

As you can see there is no Mould, Leaves, Wood or even Dirt,
nearly all of the Layers get cleaned up
and stored "under safer Conditions".

Enenews and related Blogs wrote Tokyo Bay will be dead in the matter of
just a few Years because of all the Rivers but the Reality looks different,
the Water inside Tokyo-Wan showed no increase and they even restarted
the Grow of special Meussels and Sea Fruits like Kelp, etc.
and the Rivers here are OK.!

There are Problems in the highly contaminated Area in the deep Red Plume
but for the rest it seams we have Luck until now
or/ and Protection from a higher Force like the Great White Handkerchief,
the Fukushima Fairy, Allah or the whole Club of the ca. 80.000.000.000 (80 MRD.)
Japanese Gods !

I figured if you had x amount of radiation in one square meter of ocean. A typhoon would spread the same amount of radiation out amongst 10 square meters. making less radiation within in the original meter. imagine dropping a food color drop in a liquid, initially the food coloring would be close together, then you shake it up and it has dispersed through out the entire liquid. same amount of food coloring spread over a larger area.

I guess I figure if im swimming in a radioactive ocean I would rather have a low dose spread over a large area than swimming through a hot spot.

The real concern is internalizing the radioactive bits. Especially alpha emitters. Yes, visiting the core will kill you sooner than going for a swim in the nearby ocean.

Thing is the internalized radioactive particles are taken up by the bones and connective tissues in your body. There they sit and emit, irradiating nearby cells. In the long term, these emitters can do damage to cells that may mutate and give rise to cancer.

This generally takes a few years before cancers begin to arise.

If you go to a doctor and they take an X-ray, when they are done the machine is turned off. You have been irradiated but you are not radioactive. See the difference? Ingesting radioactive contamination is like swallowing small X-ray machines that can't be turned off.

So have fun swimming thru that die cloud in the water.

Edit to add: I'm sorry Doc Scarlet, welcome to ATS!

Instead of sunny grass fields and parks, how about some video of what is coming from rain gutter downspouts? Or gutters and drain pipes from sewers?

Maybe the road side gutters where the rain runs off and collects in puddles?

How about a car wipe or furnace filter, radiator from a car, bumpers and tires? Maybe an air filter from a car or HEPA filter in air conditioners? Vacuums?

Prove out there is no radioactivity in these places. We want to see where it accumulates, that is a good starting point.

It was a bit difficult to understand but i wrote:

As you can see there is no Mould, Leaves, Wood or even Dirt,

and used my Videos as a kind of Proof
(that there is really not that much Dirt
what conducts us to the logical Conclusion that there is someone
who is collecting all this Stuff: aka someone "Decontaminate" the Area
and the Rain from a Typhoon is not harming the Rivers
with Radioactivity in that Way like the Article suggest.

i even used Apostrophes for "under safer Condition" as a hint
that it is not sooooo 100% right

By the Way i done it a few Times, checking Filter, Gutters or Sewage
(can be seen on my Channel from the "Park-Videos")
but i am just a Amateur who want to document what he sees,
my Videos are "done by an Amateur with the most basic Equipment".
(see Disclaimer)

Humans mostly do not live in a Rain Pipe, in the Sewage or in a dark Corner,
actually there is a legal Definition how we calculate all this Data,
i posted it not that long ago.

But there are People, Officials as well as NGOs who look for the Data
of the River-Water, Sweet Water Fish, Sewage Sludge and Tokyo-Bay
with professional Equipment and in the right Manner under Laboratory
Conditions because we need to have a Eye on it,
when you know the Danger you can start to develop Techniques
for a Reduction of Harm for our Kids, us, Animals and the whole
Environment.

Edit: i forgot to write that the Radiation in the Videos is ca. the Double
of Tokyo which itself is the Double of the "natural Background"
what was once ca. 0.065 micro-Sievert/ Hour Pre-Fukushima
