That is one weird looking fish. If I saw that while swimming, it would scare the gazebas out of me.

I wonder what it was doing near the surface?

A long nosed Chimaera FISH!!! I saw your title and I'm thinking the mythological creature known as a Chimaera!!!

Still a cool find, only the second ever caught! Depth 6,000ft!!! It's the Sword Fish of the epic kind in the big deep!

SnF very cool!

Interesting, and what an amazing picture of the beast!

I wonder if it could be some type of genetic anomoly, or even a genetic mutation within a "normal" fish genotype.

Who knows.......this may even be an entirely new/old undiscovered species! cool nonetheless.

That is amazing!
I bet that tail wouldn't feel good, getting hit with it.

And like others, I wonder if it was sick or something, not being that deep?

Someone should send a link of this thread to Intrepid. See if he feels like doing some ice fishing up there in Canada this Christmas season. I can see him sitting by the frozen lake ... watching a hockey game with a little battery powered TV and a Molson, and a fish hook in the ice trying to catch this lil' bugger.

lol, not even close. Once you start getting a range of venomous snakes, spiders, octopus, jellyfish, platypus. Then once you get prehistoric monsters like the Saltwater crocodile. Add to that the various ranges of poisonous fish.....and also the sharks, including the largest predator...the Great White.

Then you can say Canada is becoming more like Australia.
