Comet ISON heats up, grows new tail

Discovery reporting on the scientific analysis this time last month, is saying that the general consensus is that ISON is likely to survive any brush with the Sun. I'm presuming that they must have some estimate of its mass, and that it is large enough to not be all eaten by the Sun.

There are a few more interesting possibilities.
1. The comet gets pelted with a CME and instantly doubles or triples in brightness and displays collimated tail features that can't be explained.
2. The comet interacts with the sun in a way that is impossible for snowy dirtball or a dirty snowball or rocky swiss cheese with icy pockets.

Great find Cosmic dude.. really liked the interactive simulator , Strange that it grows tails just like the asteroid in the asteroid belt discussed in this thread if ISON builds up more tails could that have some relation with the asteroid with six tails? weird

But looking at the interactive simulator graph then it will pass above us so nothing to worry then ...

How about returning to our everyday life caring only for making money and economy markets and how we are going to push our personal agenda stepping over other people's rights and interest. Something most people do everyday and have no intention to change... Isn't that a waste of energy?

Truth is Ison won't kill us, It didn't even left debries on our orbit path for some meteor show! like a normal comet should!
I guess thats becouse it is not a comet, (at least not a normal one) it is just a big rocky-metalic meteor.
I am guessing metalic becouse of its green colour.
It's path isn't even elliptical like a comet, it is just parabolic.
After it's pass our sol - system will never see this comet again

Based on the electric universe theory - the comet is a charged ball of rock that is moving through an electric field. The gas and dust generated are due to arcing on its surface.

If this is the case, then ISON seems to be carrying a fairly substantial charge - due to its small size, but high dust and gas generation rates.

The theory is that when the comet moves close to the sun (opposite charge) there will be an arc - which causes a CME. I'm not sure on the perihelion for ISON, but the arc should occur at some point in its path before or at perihelion - making a CME in that direction, and because it seems to be highly charged then the CME would be fairly dramatic.

So if we get a big earth facing CME it might be disruptive - I'll go check the path of the comet I guess.

EDIT: Looking at the comets path, (and based on the electric universe theory) any CME caused by the approach of the comet should not be earth facing.

Yeah I've been waiting all year for Ison to show up! I can't wait! :-p Does anyone know of any good telescope to recommend?

I've been using my 50x50 binos for a while now, but have wanted to get a powerful telescope so come summer (southern hem) I'll be able to check out the heavens in all it's glory! Hopefully Ison wil be viewable with the naked eye or I'll be able to see it with my binos, but I srsly want to upgrade an get a decent telescope.

Because my post clearly gives the impression that I'm totally insensitive to the horrors of daily life around the world, including the indifference to the materialistic, capitalist, world that us westerners live in??? Yet you are correct in saying that some people don't want to enact change...because things aren't that bad...but if you understand it you'll also know that this is a game of chess and we won't know it until they call checkmate. Then we'll get ours.

Wishing/Hoping for a comet to hit the eastern seaboard of the US is wrong energy, as is indifference to the ravaging economics of a capitalist government. I don't support either...not sure where you got that impression.

On topic, I hope this thing is an Alien spacecraft. Selfish, yes, but answers many universal questions, selfish again I guess. We all have our weaknesses.

The fact that we'll be able to see ISON with the naked eye, and all the doom porno people spewing their stuff makes me remember The Chronicles of Riddick. The comet always preceded the Necromongers...

Today's image is even better. The comet is brighter and has two distinct tails. Things are finally picking up!
