I think you're right and the message is increasingly clear. We are nothing and we have nothing without Uncle there to supply it to us. From honoring our War Dead to parking our cars for the privately owned historical site for George Washington ...to catching a damn fish to eat. All depend on the literal whims and desires of Washington politicians ....and they're making very sure we understand that. Crystal clear.

I agree these politicians are trying to make a point, but in the process, they are either making themselves look like fools, or making us see how much power we have given them. Closing 1,100 square miles of ocean? Are we really going to continue to accept this as necessary or even prudent?

Other countries are laughing at the stupidity going on in Washington. I am sick from being so mad at my government for making us feel helpless and reliant on them. I see folks who are clueless about what is really happening here. Until all American's wake up and decide this is unacceptable behavior from these people who supposedly work for us, they will keep pushing farther each and every day. We The People need to make it perfectly clear to them we will not accept this crap from our employees. Crystal Clear.

It's not just Florida Bay, apparently Biscayne Bay has been "closed down", too, as well as other areas.
Government shutdown closes popular Central Florida fishing spots

The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge stretches from the Banana River near Port Canaveral up to Mosquito Lagoon near Oak Hill.
The refuge and the waters are closed because of the shutdown.
We know you can close a gate on a park, but how do you close off the water?

This alarms me. Big time. I have fishermen in my extended family, this is really going to hurt them if the waters keep closing up like this. I also live walking distance from a marina myself, and have heard idle chatter among the captains & crew in the stores the past few days worrying about this happening, and how far out to sea this would go. You are talking about potentially crippling an industry, for a pathetic reason. I think it's a wise observation to say that if the fishermen crumble, the rest of us likely aren't far behind. You can't knock out a food source, and the jobs that it takes to haul it in, and expect a quick recovery from that blow. Look at Louisiana's after BP.

I can tell you EXACTLY how it's going down. Our back country guides are PISSED off! The boys spend a lot of money in permitting, TWIC, and insurance, not to mention that when some captains pull out of their canal or dock they are IN the park!!! This is MESSED up!!!! We won silent auction for a guided tour out of the Everglades National and I have had off the last 3 days and could not use it!

I am on my phone right now, so I can't really bring Google Maps up. Can someone measure how far 1100 square miles actually goes out into the ocean from Biscayne Bay? For some reason I feel like that would include the waters off Cuba. Of course I could be wrong.

Since this is for fishing, I guess it won't impede the cruise ships to come into port of Miami, or will it somehow?
I'm also curious as to how they came up with the number 1100 square miles?

I checked Google Earth and it's a pretty big area labeled as Biscayne Bay. Google reports it as 429 Sq. miles if you type it into search as 'Square miles of Biscayne Bay" (a little trick...it works for any major geographic spot like a big city, too).

So if the official bay is all included, that has to run quite a bit off shore for the north/south length too or down into the keys?

* Sorry about the extra line bisecting the bay. Ignore that....I was measuring east/west distance and it's just under 8 miles there. It's roughly 40 miles North/South

Pain is the plan. Pain to the greatest extent they can manage to inflict it. Isn't that what some very angry Park Service people have said they've been ordered? Well.... this sure supports it.

It's more expensive to cause the pain for people than not to. That absolutely shows what the priority is here.
All this stupid is giving me a headache. So yeah, pain.

Do you think it's a coincidence this article just came out?:
Ocean acidification due to carbon emissions is highest in 300m yrs, mass extinction almost inevitable
www.abovetopsecret.com...
We're killing off the ocean (and the planet) apparently with overfishing.
See how good the government is saving us from destroying the planet?
I also wonder if this wouldn't be part of agenda 21, shutting down in coastal waters.
What will they do to those who disobey their latest edicts?

I can't help but think this is Obama's version of upsetting the chess board and refusing to let anyone play until we change the rules to suit him.

Truly disturbing, but what else should we expect from Obama. Interesting that mainstream liberal Obama loving media still are not calling the president the bad guy.

Wow, it's like the government is throwing a tantrum. Am I right in assuming that this shutdown is different than the ones the US has had in the past? Some people kept talking about how it would be fine and well since they lived through the past 17 of them... that the average person wouldn't notice a thing...

there is a force that has been trying to take America down. To just ignore it only allows it ti thrive.

The force has done all number of things to impoverish the American people. Because we were free(ish), had enough wealth the be independent upon the govt. This had to change.. How?

All the obvious ways..

Offshore the good paying jobs and simultaneously as Americans are losing jobs... FLOOD the country with foreigners.. And keep helping them POUR in..

Now is the time for the Joint Chiefs to step in and arrest the entire DC culture and put them all on trial. People are going to next start real armed resistance to all the fences and blockades and this needs to be stopped before it gets to that boiling over point.

Interesting theory...and the amazing thing IS that the the EPA managed to carry this off with only it's 6.6%
'ESSENTIAL' personnel.

I'm just glad that the US government doesn't own any toilet companies, otherwise you guys would be prohibited from wiping your own backsides.

If they patrol the oceans like they do the borders, well.... Im sure some of you will get my drift. lol no pun intended...

On a serious note though, why that particular little piece of ocean? What makes it so special? Out of all the coastline we have in America, they pick that one little spot??? Doesn't really make any sense does it? Maybe we arent asking the right questions here?

Me thinks there may be just a little more to this story than meets the press.

Because there is a Redbone tournament going on. What does the Redbone tournament do you ask? It raises a LOT of money for Cystic Fibrosis and old man Bush competes in it. Or he used to anyways LOL. Prolly too old to even hold his own rod now. The boys and girls go to Biscayne as their bread and butter for competition. Redbone stimulates the economy tremendously.
