First I felt like I've been given the shot of adrenaline, then I was crying because this music makes me so happy.
Since I am aware of myself, I always knew there is to be something, kind of like attractive force, with this music, tradition, people.
But I was born 2000 km away.
I want to go home!

So is this thread limited to songs in Gaelic? I love Loreena McKennitt but she sings in English.

Being a member of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution I was able to trace my heritage back to Ireland. Hearing these songs brings back memories and a feeling of time has forgotten.

Any Irish members contact me with the words of the first two songs listed on the YouTube feed.

Its always great to reestablish your heritage.

Thanks

Although Gaelic is part of the school curriculum in Ireland, only 5% of the Irish speak Gaelic at home, and another 10% have a working knowledge of it. 85% of the Irish speak only English, most having effectively forgotten their school-Gaelic as they got older. The Gaelic equivalent of all place names are on every road sign and even on bus signs. Menus are often printed in Gaelic, probably all in an attempt to keep the language alive. But the fact is, few Irish speak it.

And I applaud you for it. Fact is there are more Irish in America than there are in Ireland. I was just there (in Ireland) a week ago. Beautiful country, though I may have seen enough sheep for awhile. I wonder how the vote will go next year?
