That song has always rang a bell for me.

Good rendition

Simple Man
Lyrics:

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you
some sunny day. Oh Yah!

Oh take your time don't live too fast
troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Oh be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can?

Forget your lust, for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this Oh baby if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Oh be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can?

Boy don't you worry, you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this Oh baby if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied

Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son if you can?
Baby be a simple, be a simple man.

thanks brother... what did you think of his version?

Trying my best to prove to him he's very talented... Sometimes he gets down on himself...

I just don't understand why

That song has an interesting history.

It was written by Johnny Van Zant. His very good friend Justin Cranfill's mother was the inspiration for that song.

When the boys had turned hellions and was going down the wrong road, Justin's mother sat them down and gave them a serious talking to about changing the direction of their path. After that talk, Johnny turned to music and 'Simple Man' was one of the first songs he wrote to immortalize those words.

Shortly after Justin's mother gave them that talk, Justin left home to never be seen again.

Every time they play that song live, Johnny thinks of his friend Justin Cranfill.

Niagara, really? Is he in that area? We go to Ontario every so often.
I'll have to keep an eye out for him in case he's playing while we are up there.

I'm very impressed. He sings wonderfully, and I like the way he approaches the lyrics.

My son is currently having a hard time; this brought tears to my eyes! That's ALWAYS a sign of good music.

Tell him thanks for making this vid. (Also, I know how it feels to never feel your work is 'good enough'. Let others judge it...even master artists have been known to show up in museums 'tweaking' their own paintings).

Cheers, mates!!

For what it's worth, David Cook came to mind while I was listening; he's our local 'boy' here in Kansas City who won American Idol several years ago. LOVE his songs "Come Back to Me", "Time of My Life", and a few others

Does Cory write his own songs at all??

haha!!

I've been hearing that since I was 16...

He's 34, one day younger then I am actually... Once upon a time we had a plan to start a band back in highschool... but I kinda lost touch with guitar... And he was always amazing at it..

Cory's always been a heartbreaker though... women hang off him...

Me not so much... im more the laid back type...

He should be a star though, he works hard at his craft and totally deserves it...

hes just gotta get out of this area... its a retirement community...

Wow again.
(I went to see the Rolling Stones when I was about .... erm, 20? The Tattoo You tour.)

Okay, you two have given me wings to tell part of my story...

I met my ex-and-kids'-dad when he was 17 - hair down to his waist - at the house of a guy (J) I "met" on campus, who slipped on the ice on his way home from school and I said "oh! careful!"

I was 19 at the time....(J lived in a house very near campus - on the same block as the stadium). We (kids' dad and I, I'll call him B)...became friends. During the next few years, he was in a couple of my classes.

About 3 years later, after a shyte-load of crap had gone down in my life...I was 22...
on my 23rd birthday, B and his brother hosted a dance-party at their house. The Gogo's, the Stones (Tattoo-You), Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Tom Petty.....and he gave me a birthday card: "To the esteemed (me)" ...

Very soon after, B and I hooked up *cough*

One of our first "dates" was at his mom's house to watch Superbowl whichever (a couple of months after the b'day party)....
and shortly thereafter, he invited me to come along to his other pal's house where they had a garage band....He played guitar (very well, and still does)....

but while on 'stage', he had to turn his back to the group of listeners (shy!)....
later that year, I decided to move away (to Colorado)...he followed me out there after a couple of months (Wild Horses, ya know)

And yeah, a few years later, we came back "home", got married, had two beautiful kids, and we're still very close.
.....
sigh. Ah, youth. Thanks for indulging my trip down memory lane.

........

Cory's music also reminds me of Jude Cole; another fave of mine. Does he know Jude Cole??

I don't know really... He knows a lot of people...

He played with Alexis on Fire... and has opened for a few major names... Honestly I can't keep up with all he does lol

That's a wonderful story though... Good to know that things can last...

Heres another cover... "Five finger death punch"

Im just curious. You said "his music"...to me meaning his music he had written and played. Yet its...not "his" music.

That does make a big difference to us composers/players. Otherwise, and I understand where you are coming from...that its just another "cover tune" (and Ive always dug that song too).

So has he written and performed any original-to-and-by-him material? Originality in the music business is what begins and maintains musicians thruout their careers. Not cover tunes.

Thanks
