Traffic in the city is why I ride a bicycle, even if it's a 20 mile plus ride, I can still get where I need to go pretty easily. Never mind how much it saves on gas and health club membership fees...Anyway, good luck getting home any time soon.

Update from scene: Just received an internal email from Force Protection Police: Possible gunmen still in the Anacostia area. One wearing a military beret and the other possibly in military fatigues.

Military will not let us leave the base because gunmen might be somewhere along the highway right outside the gate.

First of all, praying that you stay safe and thank you for updating us from the scene.

Secondly, if one of them is in military fatigues, and there is military presence on the scene, wouldn't he just be able to blend in? That scares me.

Thankfully I am home...my husband on the other hand, well...I'm guessing he will be late tonight. Just glad and thankful that he will be coming home.

The pain these families must be going through after this tragedy....

You sure about that?

Google up what Shelter In Place means...

Live from the scene:

As of 1317 hours, we are still on "FPCON Delta: shelter in place. Two additional shooters possibly in the area". We can't even leave the building to walk to our cars.

On April 19, 2013, a shelter in place warning was issued for Boston, Massachusetts and surrounding suburbs during a manhunt for one of the suspected Boston Marathon bombers. The manhunt began after a shootout between police and the two suspects took place in Watertown, Massachusetts.[12]

On September 16, 2013 a shelter in place warning was issued in Washington DC around the Navy Yard after shooing in Naval Sea Systems Command HQ.[13]

“The lockdown is really voluntary, to be honest with you,” says Scott Silliman, emeritus director of the Center on Law, Ethics and National Security at Duke Law School. “The governor said he wants to use sheltering in place.

The “shelter in place” request is legally different from a state of emergency

And that would only be relevant if the people enforcing the "shelter in place" even knew the law that they enforce, and on recent evidence, Id say categorically that they dont. But you keep believing what you like.

They ASK people to stay indoors...until they know if they caught the people who did this...how many shooters etc. It is a VOLUNTARY request...JUST LIKE BOSTON...NOT a LOCK-DOWN...Military state yada yada.

No, its a lockdown. Regardless of what you believe, like you said you are not even there, and people that are there have said its a lockdown.

"Lockdown" is a generic term. The official status is "Shelter in place" which is a VOLUNTARY REQUEST...without legal penalty or fine for disregarding. Just like Boston. And when a "School" goes on "Lockdown" it means no one leaves, buses are cancelled, doors are locked and no one enters without a high-level of scrutiny. Any parent that wants to pick up a child can show ID, enter the building and leave with their child.
edit on 16-9-2013 by Indigo5 because: (no reason given)

OH its OK antonioparis, you can leave to go home, indigo5 said its ok.
When you leave go to the law enforcement that will be pointing guns at you, tell them to go online to abovetopsecret.com if they need confirmation that indigo5 said its all okay.

I dont mean to come off rude, but really.

Can't have it both ways...

Can't call people cowards for choosing to heed the REQUEST to "shelter in place"..and then complain that it is too frightening to be confronted and questioned if you choose to walk the streets.

No..I don't think it would be wise to run down the middle of the street during a manhunt. Not illegal either during a "shelter in place" request.

I was responding to those complaining that this was tyrannical police-state...that folks had been deprived of freedom in place of security.

That is not accurate...you are free to walk the streets...and make that choice...Just don't be an idiot and take offense that you might be confronted by police and questioned since they ARE HUNTING MURDERING WACKOs in your neighborhood.

If they suggest that one should shelter in place, it's probably a good idea to do so unless it's literally impossible. I have military experience, and know that if a curfew is imposed you take your life in your own hands if you disregard it, shelter in place suggests something similar. Also, the military and the police wear uniforms and are going stop anyone who isn't wearing what they are. If you're a glutton for punishment, go ahead, go for a walk.
Just because a pedestrian has the right of way doesn't mean a pedestrian doesn't have to exercise any common sense at all, blindly stepping out into a roadway without looking, crosswalk or no....See the logic?.

Anyone is the area stay safe. I do wonder what sparked this shooting, so far I think the number of shooters is up to three people?

I think the shelter in place here, a military base, is different. Irregardless, the MPs are not allowing anyone to leave the base or come on the base too. They have ordered "all base personnel to shelter in place" and that the base entrance/exit is closed.
