The Unions were all for the PPACA......

That is BEFORE they realized they had been hoodwinked by one better.

It looks like a 180 turnaround now that many workers are getting chopped and channeled down to part time.

Maybe the unions, who have been experiencing dwindling membership have taken the pills and been bought off ?

They were fist pounding when the bill was being debated.

Now, it's a different story.

I wish they'd make up their minds already

It wasn’t that long ago that union leaders were rallying for Barack Obama and threatening to take those “sons-a-bitches” (conservatives) out.

But that was before the election.

Now, leaders of three major U.S. unions, including the highly influential Teamsters, sent a letter today to Democrats warning that Obamacare will “destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.”
They’re right. Already thousands of small businesses are cutting employee hours so that they will not have to cover the employees with the Democrat’s disastrous health care bill.....

read 'the letter' in the story.

Now They Tell Us…

Maybe next we will hear about union leaders endorsing Republicans

When hell freezes over.

Good for the union leaders for stating the obvious of that many of us have been saying since 2010.

How is forcing me to pay for services I don't need or want a socialist idea? We "socially" minded people want everyone to be clothed, fed, and have access to genuine emergency care. There is already plenty of money being generated by the multitude of taxes and fees we pay in this USA to provide the things I mentioned, only it's being pissed down the drain on our policies of international bullying, mismanagement, and outright theft by corrupt government "officials." Oh did I mention we lock up and have to house millions of peace-loving drug offenders every year, at great expense? Is any of this getting through to anyone?

Not their fault.
That's why they had to "pass it to find out what's in it".

If the entire bill had been truly vetted out so the political influence and money understood what it was, they would have had about a dozen votes for it and the rest against.

It helps no one and even the government can't actually handle the basics of it.

That's what unions do, right?

And the systems have been and were in place to do that, already.

Okay, I try to not reply to myself, but I found the need to do so here.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW for short), felt the need to take dues from me, take a little more for a 'retirement' fund, and just a tad more.

I had to pay dues to get my job; had to pay dues to keep my job. I invested in my future but cannot get a single penny of the 'retirement' fund I was forced to pay into since I no longer work in the industry. Sounds like I was paying for someone else's retirement, not mine.

Sound familiar?

I can only speak from my own experience with the 2 unions I have worked for. One, rolled my retirement over to an IRA, as I was a temp. emergency hire to fill a needed position, while they could do a search.
The other one still sends me monthly portfolio updates.

I'm not convinced that what you are saying is correct.

IBEW sends me quarterly updates regarding the 'portfolio' I'm invested in, and a toll free number I can call.
I've called.
If I'm working, regardless of whether or not it's related to the 'electrical' field, I can't collect anything.
And, before I can collect my from 'retirement' fund, I have to look for work with a union affiliate.

Your mileage may vary.

And it's not like I have a bunch saved up, maybe $1200 or so..

Forgive me, if I'm not understanding you correctly, but your issue is you cannot access your Union retirement before you retire?
Which I'm sure you could, you'd just have to pay penalties on early withdrawal.

No, really? Funny, some of us could have told these idiots this much three years ago. Maybe next time, if they can find a crowbar to pry their heads out of the Democratic party's backside for a second, they'll actually listen to reason.

Nah, I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon...or ever.

Since we have hungry children that don't have enough winter clothing, I'd say those systems have failed. What say you?

Remember the good ol days?
In the 1950's one job took care of the household
the whole family could take a vacation, maybe Dad had a boat etc.
Union's made up 50% of the workforce. Corporations were taxed
MUCH higher & the USA saw the best conditions for prosperity yet.

Now Union membership is about 11%.
Corporations are getting away with murder on taxes.
Some pay none.

Aw the good ol days.
Imagine if Obama could tax Corps at 50+%
and got Unions up to 50% of the workforce?
What kinda of propaganda would the rightwing be spewing then?

And who was the obvious socialist commie who was in charge
back in the 50's when workers had not only rights but money?
Oh yeah comrade Gen.Eisenhower.

Isn't this a surprise?

So, why are they not doing something about it? Shut down their "Union" Jobs for a day, in Protest ! Hell, do it for a week!

Scared to lose their Jobs too, as this Administration does nothing to fix the broken promises?

Meh.............

My sentiments exactly!!

Sounds like the gravy train dried up for the union thugs!! I’d like to slap every Obama supporter that finally has that ‘Come to Jesus’ moment about the lies of the left. It drives me nuts that so many people didn’t realize how far their head was up their rear until they got crapped on. Pay attention!!!

Though many would consider this ‘good news’, it is infuriating to me. I want to see where they go from here....

The country is going to hell because of bad policy and all you can do is ask for MORE OBAMA and MORE UNIONS????

WOW!

50+ years ago.....
The international expansions by U.S. companies into other countries hadn't happened yet.

Products made in the USA were dominant.

The foreign markets were devastated by WW2 (especially Asia).

Government regulations were not as much of an economic burden on companies yet.

Goods and services were more in proportion and businesses could operate cheaper.

Thus, the Unions had it easier.

The higher tax rates for corps really didn't amount to half a hill of beans because they were taxed on smaller profits after all expenses. Maybe we need to see some genuine numbers and compare.

The dwindling of unions started when the big companies started exporting the jobs.
That, and the weaker attitudes of workers coming into the left over jobs in the U.S.

Imagine if Obama could tax Corps at 50+%
and got Unions up to 50% of the workforce?

The 50% rate would be meaningless. In fact, any rate is meaningless.

The international companies would simply defer more jobs and profits outside the U.S.
( just like they do now ! )

Maybe outlaw all corporations then ?
Well then they move all operations to friendlier frontiers.

Your "50-50" plan seems impossible to achieve.

The large international corporations are the strongest most powerful organizations in the history of the world so far.

What kinda of propaganda would the rightwing be spewing then?

Gee Clyde, I don't know.

But the leftwing propaganda seems to mostly push agendas that are not realistic and tend to be idealistic.

But that's the plan isn't it ?

And who was the obvious socialist commie who was in charge
back in the 50's when workers had not only rights but money?
Oh yeah comrade Gen.Eisenhower.

Don't forget that many workers in the 1950's were military veterans (and family members) from WW2 and Korea.

What exactly HAS Obama done for the unions anyway ?

Perhaps Nothing ?

IMO, the unions have been bought off.
