If some ATS members want to ignorantly use history as a ONE-LINER to villify a civilisation, instead of providing indepth studies and analysis to today's crisises, why stop at one or some particular point of time? Why not just go the whole hog and start at the very beginning -

Homo Sapiens conquered territories of our world and wiped out 100% of Neanderthals as proven by science and anthropologists.

There, a one liner super end to end it all and pwn others.

Julius Caesar of Rome tamed the celts and druid savages on the island of Brittan and gave them civilisation.

PS: seems like the one liner blame games aint gonna end, so who wanna be next to blame Rome?

Seems a bit ironic if you ask me. Here is a nation which (at one time or another) thought nothing of invading, attacking and occupying the entire globe yet they're really upset by foreigners who have entered their nation legally...

Karma anyone?

Imperialists don't believe in Karma.

Because greed doesn't add up with Karma.

And they don't believe in any justice or they shouldn't have done many damages to many nations.

In fact , Imperialists believe that this universe is a jungle and they are the wolves and hyenas.

Living as you do in The US, you are benefiting from the British Empire.
If you dislike the British Empire so much, why don't you move away from America and go live somewhere that was never part of our Empire. Why not try Mongolia?

Thinking about the isles of Britannia, a name given to the UK by the Romans, the first to mount a sword carrying invasion, seems the Brits have had their fair share of invasions, starting with the Romans, then, after the Romans left, as they were suffering invasions of their own, we have the Gauls, Picts, Saxons, Vikings (also known as 'Norsmen') the French on various occasions, and the Hugeanoes who actually stayed, almost forgot the Angles, where the Brits get 'Anglo-Saxon' from, Oh yes, the Danes, had some interest in Britannia too.

Viking means 'to go raiding' nothing to do with 'kings' The old English bible refers to Vikings as 'Norsemen'. Where the name of Normans, on the west coast of France lived. (Normandy)

Another statistic I'd be interested in is how much compensation the British have had to payout in comparison to other empires? Can Rome still be held accountable for their wrong doing?

This is one of those things that is fun and also silly. Few of those countries existed as countries when the Brits fought a local tribe in the area. In fact many of those coutries would not exist as unified nations without the Brits. The title is also misleading uning the word invaded. UK forces landing in Northern Russia to assist the White Russians against the communist uprising is not an invasion.

Britain and america have a really special relationship......come on america how often can you look down and see any other countries hanging off your balls? but there goes the price of dignity to the cost of remaining relevant.....if only britain could lose the ingrained racism and learn a foreign language you would not feel so alone in europe.....but heyhoe!

Other than a spectacularly poor trolling attempt, what is the point of your OP?

Over the course of history many nations have had empires. It just so happens that Britain is one of them.

Whats next? Are you going to try and troll Romans? "Pax Romana, its bad Karma"

C'mon, can't be no one is blaming Rome for starting the fire of invasions. But Rome aint the one to be blamed for the conquering bug.

Greece, the land of Plato and Aristotle, were the ones whom indirectly created Rome, when they invaded the continent of Europe with Troy, which resulted in Aneas and his bunch of royalty creeping further inland in Alba Longa to found the nation of Rome.

Now, who wanna blame Greece, of Minoan descendents?

A US Embassy has "troops" in it, but it's not a military base. Perhaps that's one way they've fiddled the stats of "156 countries".

My my, aren't you aware that most Brits would swear their lineage to the romans, an ancient civilisation that formulated laws and republican democratic institutions ( and of course the rather rapacious acumen for biz economic opportunities of ancient 'globalization' corruption),

rather than to the indigenous celts and picts moron savages whom STILL exists today as evident of football hooligans after a few pints and the inner city Chavs?

Let's not derail this humourous thread, and find out where that insidious conquering bug came from in the west and when we are done, we will turn our attention to the east ;-P

Perhaps many others would too, whenever it came into existence.

Either way, yours is the same history from 300,000 BC- 1783 AD. Shameful, eh?
