Not Good...

Lots of shoddy housing in this area. From bad construction and materials on high rises and apartments to adobe housing.

Update 00:49 UTC : WAPMERR, the theoretical damage engine has calculated that based on M6.9 and 16 km depth there will be 400 to 3500 fatalities and thousands of injured. Let’s hope that they are wrong !

I find the timing of the quake and them taking the last suspect into custody to be more than a coincidence.

There were no immediate reports of casualties ..

The epicenter, with a depth of 13 km, was monitored at 30.3 degrees north latitude and 103.0 degrees east longitude.` The quake was strongly felt by residents in Sichuan's capital city of Chengdu, which is about 140 kilometers from Ya'an.

A resident in Chengdu, who was on the 13th floor of a building when the quake occurred, said he felt the building shaking for about 20 seconds and he saw tiles fall off nearby buildings.

A few big ones have gone off in the last while...What the hell is the pattern? I'm guessing it's a weather system we just don't get yet. I hope the damage is minimal but that's completely out of my hands.

It is unfortunate that such an devastating earthquake has struck the same province which had last years May EQ of 7.4 which killed thousands of people in Lushan and Sichuan provinces...

This 6.6 has already claimed 78 lives and hundreds of people are injured. S&F to you OP.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake in southwestern China has left 203 dead and over 11,500 people injured.

Rescuers poured into a remote corner of southwestern China on Sunday as the death toll from the country's worst earthquake in three years climbed to 164 with more than 6,700 injured, state media said.

1.5 million people affected by the tremors, says state broadcaster CCTV.
