Greetings, ATS!

With the advent of drone technology, its only a matter of time before drones are used in nefarious ways. I've read that not only the government will have drones, but so will private industries. This is just a "feeling" I have, but its one that Tim Faucett of A Plus Mobile agrees with.

According to Fauccett,

“There are going to be private drones, there’s going to be commercial drones,” he told me on the phone. Indeed, the FAA estimates that there could be tens of thousands of unmanned aircrafts circling overhead by the end of this decade. “Everybody’s going to have access to a drone. And people are going to have good intentions with them, and people are going to have bad intentions with them."

Faucett, whose company makes robotics and similar technology for Lockheed Martin and the US Government, has come up with a way to "drone-proof" your house.

Because the technology is so new, Faucett’s conversations about it are shrouded in secrecy, including what it looks like, what the tech entails, or how it really works. He referred to a system that includes software and sensors that will be able to identify nearby UAVs based on their electromagnetic signature, alert the owner of the system, and then--the coup de grâce--the system will somehow “neutralize the drone’s capability to see you with its camera.”

According to Faucett, "We don’t interfere with the drones navigation in any way. We don’t jam anything. We don’t intercept anything … This is non-combative. That’s really important.”

Faucett says that as word has gotten out about his company on the Internet, people have falsely described his services like some sort of militia weaponry. “We’ve taken great pains to design systems that aren’t going to get shut down or be outlawed or become illegal. … We’ve taken the combat elements out so [the former military technology] can’t be viewed as unlawful.”

Apparently, the technology will replace the drone's image with the video of your choice, thereby effectively blinding the drone to whats going on in your home. Pretty cool, in my opinion.

So I wanted to ask you, ATS.....what video would you upload? Here's mine.... Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice"

I like the idea, though I wonder if a law enforcement or other government agency drone was in the neighborhood would it be affected? If so, could that be considered obstructing, and lead to probable cause for a warrant to search your house?

Better I think to put pressure on elected officials to ban their use entirely.

Here's a good solution to the drone problem... the EMP cannon

Ok....sure....... If there was such tech, a) It'd already be in use by the military, and b) It'd be highly classified. This don't smell right....

Not to mention, it would also have to defeat IR and other optics modes.

You could probably turn up your heat to full, and hide under a vent...but that's about it.

I"m not a tech savvy person at all. I kinda understand why an EMP strike would be bad, and I can use my computer, but that's about it. So I have to take things at face value.

The article did make it sound like he was still working on it....but why do you think its impossible?

I do find the one question about obfuscating a search interesting. But that would only be government drones. This guy is claiming drones will be in use by companies and others.

Interesting....

I would like to see if I can declare the airspace above my property as private.
Then I may be able to get permission from the UN to make it a "No Fly Zone".
They are the world government, right?

Seems that, or one hell of a good high power rifle shot, will be what stops these.

Remember, not all drones will be at 30,000ft.
These commercial units will be between the 500ft-5,000ft range.
Typically like smaller Sesna aircraft.

I eagerly await the troublesome days to come...

Interesting, i'm not tech savvy at all so would have no clue how that would work but for fun here is the video I would choose to blast at them. Great choice on yours btw.

For years...no.;...decades....the Los Angeles Police and Sheriff's Department have been scouring socialist neighborhoods like swarming locusts with searchlights and loud speakers.

Now that they are using drones you suddenly get excited?

Shoot....the drones are a lot more silent than the helicopters.....you can get more sleep at night.

And the drones use infrared instead of those invasive searchlights.

Now that the US Air Force has the super-smart, super-agile X-37B in orbit, the LEO's of the US will be getting feeds from those, for free, from the government to spy on EVERYBODY! And it's going to be very hard to evade the X-37B Space Bomber, because it can drop SMART weapons, from SPACE. How cool is that right? Homeland Security? Patriot Act? = N K V D! It's game over for "Freedom", but that's ok, because now we're safe! No one will be able to sneak aboard an airliner masquerading as a pilot or stuff like that! Whooo! I was SO WORRIED!
I don't think the drones we are seeing now are the ones we have to worry about. It's the cyber-pigeons and robo-squirrels that they'll use!

A fair question.

Lets break it down.

Digital or Optical camera - all it is doing is collecting light...just how does he propose to intercept the light hitting the camera lens and change it? If we could do this, we could have people walking into banks like having an invisibility cloak from Harry Potter.

Thermal imaging - the military has optics that can see you moving around under 4' of concrete, so hard to defeat. If you aren't jamming the signal being sent to do the imaging, then how would you replace the images?

So, even if it was jamming signals, a) it'd have to be able to do across multiple frequencies, identify the frequency, and then ensure that frequency doesn't affect anything else, b) the FAA isn't about to permit anything messing with frequencies for fear you down a jetliner, and c) you can't jam/intercept the light going to a lens.

Oddly enough, the tinfoil house idea above would be pretty effective against both thermal (on a hot day), and visual optics (the reflected sunlight would obscure the building and some of the surroundings via a flare), but it would also be like putting a big bullseye on your head as a bright glowing building!

Sounds like this guy is spinning a tale.... If he could really do it, this would be a classified military program, not something for home use.

Remember, not all drones will be at 30,000ft.

The ones used by many police departments are actually the size of model planes, about a yard long....though their range sucks.

Mosquito drones

That site won't let me copy, but they're talking about tiny bug like drones that can land on you and take your DNA or attach a tiny microphone or camera to your clothing when you're outside, which you then, unknowingly bring inside with you ....

Apparently, they're working on these now

They've been in the works for ages, but I think we're a ways away from the tech needed to perfect that kind of micro flight.

This sounds like some pretty interesting tech, but wouldn't this be classified as tampering? Also, drones in our skies is not that far away from being a reality. There's a company named Arcturas uav and they "survey" in California... they just happen to have a contract with the navy. arcturus-uav.com...

I don't know...
It seems like they release what they're able to do, often after they've already been doing it.

Technology could be way ahead of what we think it is.

Crime increases...

Technology to fight crime increases...

The criminals don't want you to be able to protect yourself....

Someone said this isn't the Wild West. Shoot, no. The Wild West didn't have so many drug dealers and prostitutes on the street corners.

Agreed. I'm no stranger to the military defense network of development. I grew up within it, and at one point, was set to enter it. My father worked on classified projects for most of my late childhood.

Still, if we had this level of tech, I don't think we'd be in any kind of decline at all, and certainly not in this current economic crisis. This type of tech would end the "war on terror" within weeks....

im sure this is the kind of stuff they want us to believe. that we cant be spied on while we are being spied on.
makes us feel better thinking they are looking at some youtube video when they zoom into our home lol.

we cant be that dumb
