JERUSALEM – In a stunning setback, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's hard-line bloc fared worse than expected in a parliamentary election Tuesday, exit polls showed, possibly forcing the incumbent Israeli leader to invite surprisingly strong moderate rivals into his government and soften his line toward the Palestinians. TV exit polls showed the hard-liners with about 61 seats in the 120-seat parliament, a bare majority, and the counts could change as actual votes are tallied. The unofficial TV results had Netanyahu winning only 31 seats, though he combined his Likud Party with the far-right Yisrael Beitenu for the voting. Running separately four years ago, the two won 42 seats. He expected to increase that total by running together, but the combined list's poll results dipped steadily throughout the three-month campaign. Read more: www.foxnews.com...

It looks like Netanyahu will be able to hang on, with some help from aligned parties.
How do you think that this will affect :
1.) American-Israel relations
2.) American policy towards the Middle East

Furthermore, given the icy relationship that Obama and Netanyahu have maintained during Obama's first term, will that relationship continue to decline or improve?
I'd like to hear from ATS members. As always, let's keep this thread civil.

Decline........

You just don't change your perception of someone, especially after his "Open Mic" moment.

That may be true, but the fall of support is relatively minor, and in addition, leaders sometimes act rashly if they think that their backs ARE against the wall. It could create a very dangerous situation, in an area that is already a powder keg.

Starred. I believe you hit the nail on the head.
I feel that this increases the likelihood of an attack on Iran significantly. Given Obama's complete lack of any good will towards Bibi and Israel, we may not know about an attack on Iran until it actually happens.

I find this highly Ironic. Americans also are Anti-War, but had no problem reelecting Obama, who has stepped it up with covert wars..........

Barack Obama condemned "perpetual war" in his inaugural speech Monday, even as he continues to wage covert wars around the world. Rather than reversing trends towards secrecy and militarization that started during the Bush administration, Obama instead has expanded drone attacks, continued to employ the states secrets privilege and allowed special forces to operate in countries where we are not at war, Nation Institute fellow Jeremy Scahill told Amy Goodman Tuesday on Democracy Now!

Jeremy Scahill: Obama's Covert Wars Contradict His Rhetoric

Is he not just another Bush? Is he not just another Netanyahu? Hypocrisy abounds while the citizens reelect......

Agree.

I don't believe Israel will stand down from any threat, real or perceived. Obama closed that door, with his personal stance.

What I find Ironic, is you forget who Obama was running against, As you Fully Supported Him.

Romney made it Perfectly Clear, the Day after getting Office, Iran was Under Attack.

Obama made it Clear, Lets try Talk, and Sanctions.

See Sonny, the US people, dont want War.

Did you hear about Rapper Lupe Fiasco being "thrown offstage and escorted off the premises of a Washington, D.C. concert hall during a pre-inauguration concert Sunday night, after going on an anti-war, anti-Obama rant, according to concertgoers"?
dailycaller.com...
He basically said the same thing, namely that Obama is a hypocrite about wanting peace, when he really loves war. That war includes not only invading other countries as Bush did, but also war against American citizens with thousands of drones over American cities, signing the NDAA and other laws which chip away at our freedoms.

And what is the difference? In America it's easier to hide the covert wars from the dumbed down MSM viewing public. If you really think about it we have been at war for almost 60 years now in one form or another.

My friend, its a sham.

Its a fine line to say and talk Peace, when exploiting another Countries Sovereignty with Covert Wars.

The US is no friend to Israel, as long as Obama is in office. Netanyahu knows this.

Yeah like Operation Olympic games most Americans have no idea of the war monger in chief attacking Iran.

Sure they heard about Stuxnet, and flame but that did happen under his watch that is an act of war, a covert act of war.

But they don't seem to care about facts.

On topic Netanyahu won democracy in action.

Nothing is hidden. Its in plain sight.

No one is holding Obama accountable. MSM is in cahoots with this Administration.

I hate to look like I'm pimping out my thread, but it makes more sense to copy the link here than to paste everything I've said in there in here.

my answer is that they are PLAYING DOWN the alliance with Israel so as to not look like the bad guys. they are still on Syrias neck so words only mean so much. the Syria issue is directly related to the war that Israel wants to start.

Our government is saying one thing, yet doing another.

is that any surprise? i was hopeful things would change too but the reason they are playing down the alliance is that too many people in the US are sick of this... so they are scratching the kitty litter over top of it.

My opinion on this is in my first three posts... I think I am done for the night.

I need to go watch cartoons for a little while.

Plenty of wars are hidden it's only been lately with people becoming more familiar with the net is the reason that more has become known.
The MSM is always in cahoots with the administration it doesn't matter if they are left or right.

I for one am glad he did close that door it should have been shut decades ago. If Israel wants to fight Iran let them there is no need for America to get involved. If either Israel or Iran gets wiped off the map so what? It's not like either one of them has a right to exist.

I don't think it will affect US-Israeli relations at all... as long as America is run by Zionists, they will be in bed with Israel no matter who they elect to parliament or the PM.

I could see Israel's relations with her immediate neighbors improving if Nutty Yahoo were sacked altogether, but that wouldn't change US-Israel relations.

Guaranteed.

By then, too late.
