Some types of magnesium flares can look like WP flares under the right conditions. WP is used as a smoke screen, not to distract missiles. It burns hot enough, but not intensely enough, like a magnesium flare does.

I agree the video does tell me it is flares. Which then that would make the heat seeking missiles pretty useless.

It depends on the missile. The Grail can only track from a treat shot, so with that one, yes. The -16/24 not add much.

Stupid phone. That should have been "from a rear shot" not from a treat shot.

Just thought I would bring the really scary type of hype to disgrace ATS.

Dun Dun Dun Dunnnn... the MSM.

Yesterday the media was saying maybe Assad was "moving" or "loading" chemicals, today they are "loaded bombs on the runway" for two months and OH MY GOD this has us so terribly worried! He might do something any minute!

Red line ! Red line! pffft...

Caution Contains Mind Control Techniques!

Place Tongue In Cheek

Were I to read between the lines I would say that the ramp up to invasion is at a fever pitch. This kind of "news report" that shows us no evidence whatsoever and yet worrisomely warns us about the dire situation. Yesterday it was maybe, today it is fact.

NATO moves toward deployment on Syria border

news.yahoo.com...

BEIRUT (AP) — As fears grow in the West that Syrian President Bashar Assad will unleash chemical weapons as an act of desperation, NATO moved forward Thursday with its plan to place Patriot missiles and troops along Syria's border with Turkey to protect against potential attacks.

Germany's Cabinet approved the move on Thursday, and German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere told reporters that the overall mission is expected to include two batteries each from the Netherlands and the United States, plus 400 soldiers and monitoring aircraft.

It's a cluster bomb unit. The RBK-250 with RAB 2.5 submunitions. It's not WP, it's thermite based. The 2.5 has three types of submunitions. One with just thermite, one with thermite and HE, and one with thermite and a jellied incendiary substance. The puff is the outer casing coming apart, and the streaks are the submunitions coming out of the casing.

What good is a UN vote if the US, Nato and its arab allies aren't going to uphold it?

Its from Feb earlier this year when the Russians and Chinese vetoed the resolution for a Libya style "solution" in Syria.

Bwah Wah--- NO "no fly zones" and NO "humanitarian aid" for the US, Nato and its Arab allies. Have we gone end around yet?

Close now, close. Especially love Ambassador Rice scolding the UN Security Council.

And Hillary's response... chopping wood. "And you're all murderers... you all don't care... you're despicable."

I didn't ask these people to use America's tax money and bomb people half way around the world with it. Who do they think they are?

I'll try to find the articles this refers to and post them:

"USA Starts Arming Terrorist Groups in Syria" Dec 09, 2012

www.sana-syria.com...

eta:

Here is the title of the UK article, though it says the service is down atm, and in any case one might have to register to read it, but, fwiw:

"Covert US plan to arm rebels | The
Sunday Times" Dec 9, 2012

Another article referring to it:

"US to arm Syrian rebels?" Dec 9, 2012

english.ruvr.ru...

According to The Sunday Times, the
Americans have already purchased
mortars, anti-tank rockets and
shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles for
the purpose.
The weaponry came from the arsenals
amassed by the ousted Libyan dictator
Muammar Gaddafi.

Syria’s chemical stockpiles watched by Israeli Commandos
According to The Sunday Times,
Israeli commandos sent to Syria are
watching that country’s chemical
weapon stockpiles. The paper has
quoted an Israeli source as saying the
Syrians have been hastily relocating
their chemical arsenals. On Thursday, rebel fighters seized a village located within 3 kilometers of Syria’s biggest chemical weapon storage site.

Well, that should put everyone at ease...(sarcasm)

And the NYT article, which doesn't refer to the US ready to arm them, but about the concerns with the AQ linked groups:

"Syrian Rebels Tied to Al Qaeda Play Key Role in War" Dec 9, 2012

mobile.nytimes.com...

And another NYT article I found while looking:

"U.S.-Approved Arms for Libya Rebels Fell Into Jihadis’ Hands" Dec 5, 2012

www.nytimes.com...

(sorry if these are ugly links, I'm on a low-tech tablet atm)

Here is an interesting item, obviously speculative:

"New plan to invade Syria"
www.voltairenet.org...

France, the United Kingdom, Israel
and Qatar have prepared yet
another plan for intervention in Syria.
6000 new jihadists, including 4000
from Lebanon, should be poised to
attack the upscale Mezzeh
neighborhood south of Damascus,
home to many embassies and where
several top military and civilian
officials reside. An incident involving
chemical weapons across the country
is set to increase the tension. A
traitorous general would then claim to
have seized power and call to the
West for help, thus providing a
pretext for military intervention
outside the UN mandate.

I think too many people were suspicious for them to proceed...

The Syrian govt has submitted letters to the UN that it feels it's about to be framed in regard to the chemical weapons.

edition.cnn.com...

Syria has accused the United States of
working to falsely accuse the country
of using chemical weapons, Syrian
state-run media said Monday.
"The U.S. administration has
consistently worked over the past year
to launch a campaign of allegations on
the possibility that Syria could use
chemical weapons during the current
crisis," the Foreign Ministry wrote in
letters to U.N. Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon, the state-run Syrian Arab
News Agency reported.
"What raises concerns about this news
circulated by the media is our serious
fear that some of the countries
backing terrorism and terrorists might
provide the armed terrorist groups
with chemical weapons and claim that
it was the Syrian government that
used the weapons," SANA quoted the
letters as saying.

#NATO - A diplomatic source said on
Monday that the patriot missiles,
which the NATO decided to deploy in
Turkey, will not be deployed along the
borders with Syria directly, but inside
the Turkish territories.
The French News Agency (AFP)
reported the diplomatic source as
saying, "We want the missiles to be
deployed far from the borders to
avoid any misunderstanding with
Russia."
Earlier, Russia warned of the
repercussions of such a decision as
Russian President Vladimir Putin
considered it as "escalating tensions
on the Syrian-Turkish borders."
