French Police Wednesday arrested 10 people linked to radical Islamic groups in several cities across the country as part of a crackdown following a string of terror attacks in southern France that stunned the country last month.
The police arrested people who are suspected of having spent time—or planning to spend time—participating in terrorist activities in Afghanistan or Pakistan, Pierre-Henry Brandet, the French Interior Ministry's spokesman, said Wednesday.
The arrests were carried out just one day after the Paris prosecutor François Molins said his office dismantled a radical Islamic group that allegedly acquired weapons and trained with the aim of conducting acts of terror. Thirteen members of the group are now being questioned by antiterrorist magistrates, who can decide to put them under formal investigation.
Brandet said the 10 people arrested Wednesday have no connection with the dismantled group or with Mohammed Merah, the man suspected of having killed seven people in three attacks in and around Toulouse last month.
The Wednesday arrests come as President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is seeking re-election this spring...

I don't know if jumping the gun and screaming future police is the right thing to do here. Someone suspected of showing interest in a terrorist group and suspected of attempting to join at a later date can be arrested, held and questioned. Of course they can't be charged with any act in which they were not complicit, but that attempt to begin training certainly warrants an arrest and at least questioning. If it follows a certain countries laws, so be it. It's not like they're getting charged for the next terror attack.
I see it as warming the water around the frog.
I agree that this is scary. Whatever people think or intend to do, arresting them beforehand and before any crime is committed is over control by thought police.
What happened to innocent until proven guilty, or in this case until you do something to be guilty of?
