Thousands of supporters and oppossers of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr took to the streets today in Sadr City. Iraqi soldiers had to form a roadblock to prevent entrance into al-Sadr's office.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Thousands of demonstrators supporting -- and hundreds opposing -- Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr took to the streets in Iraq on Friday as U.S. soldiers fought insurgents in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood and near Falluja.

In the Falluja area, U.S. forces hammered insurgent targets with airstrikes for the fourth day in a row.

Five kidnappings were reported Friday. In Najaf, four police officers were taken hostage, and in Baghdad, a police officer was abducted.

Police think the Baghdad kidnapping and the recent abduction of two female Italian aid workers might have been conducted by the same people. The kidnappers in both incidents wore Iraqi national guard uniforms and used similar vehicles, they said.

About 500 protesters hit the streets against al-Sadr, while 3000 to 4000 supports also marched. Children danced and chanted "America is scared of this" There is also reports that 4 police officers have been taken hostage.

Well at least there are protesters who are willing to physically show themselves. There is a definite showing of some support here.

I'm sure we'd see a lot more people willing to show opposition to Al Sadr if it weren't for the fact that they live in fear of him... accounts from his reign of terror in Najaf included impromptu executions, imprisonment and torture.

It gives you an idea of the courage that these few hundred are displaying.

Anyone hear any more about the bodies they found in the basement of his "court"?
