After ten years of fighting in Afghanistan, 71 percent of U.S. military combat deaths have taken place in provinces bordering Pakistan.

CNSNews.com’s detailed tally shows that as of Nov. 30, a total of 1,527 U.S. troops have died while engaged in combat – 1,089 of them in 10 of the 11 Afghan provinces bordering Pakistan. The other 438 U.S. combat deaths happened elsewhere in Afghanistan.

So, why are we in Afghanistan again? Where are our enemies fleeing to for safety? Where are they launching their attacks from?
How about our screwed up rules of engagement that put our troops lives in jeopardy every single day.

We all know that IEDs are the number one killer of our troops in Afghanistan and IEDs are also responsible for a record number of soldiers loosing limbs and causing a lifetime of suffering from injuries sustained from them.

The majority of the materials used to make these devices actually come from Pakistan because they are banned in Afghanistan. These terrorists hide out in Pakistan, cross the border to attack and head back in the warm embrace of Pakistan. It's time to cut the cord for good because we will never win according to these rules.

Incidentally, 67% of all 1,741 fatalities in our 10 year war in Afghanistan have occurred under Obama's 3 year watch.

Or maybe, just maybe, this entire story is a complete lie, and they're tryna get Amerikan citizens to back a possible war in Pakistan. For you to even condone this MSM bull crap on here is in strict violation of the motto. Our troops die, because we invaded somebody else's country and they didn't like it. No surprise to me at all. The solution is NOT to send troops to Pakistan. It's to grow up as a country, and understand that our business is over here where 46 million people are POOR.

Pakistan has benefited a great deal by being an ally to the USA and NATO for pay, and a covert ally to the enemies of the west and USA.

To the Pakistani regime, it's nothing personal, it's always strictly business.

First and foremost CNS news is far from mainstream so your MSM distraction attempt is moot. Second this has nothing to do with launching a war on Pakistan. It is illuminating a massive problem that our troops are condemned to deal with every flippin day. Furthermore, I stated in the OP that it was time to cut the cord in Afghanistan because we will never win with these rules in place. Our troops will just continue to die and be dismembered in the process.

I say bring all of our troops home to a weak economy then we will truly see unemployment numbers like we've never seen before. That's not going to happen though. The Obama Doctrine and his Responsibility to Protect will ensure that our troops continue to have jobs. We are in knee deep and getting deeper by the day in the middle east and key areas of Africa. We have 100 US troops in Uganda deployed in a kill or capture mission and I predict we will see similar small scale missions in Somalia in the pursuit of Al Shabaab as part of Obama's hunt for terror organizations and their leaders. www.nctc.gov...

Exactly! mission accomplished. However according to Obama we still have until 2014 to keep our troops in no man's land. I'm a conservative and support a strong military to protect US soil and this BS in Afghanistan must end before 2014.

That is the problem, backing out of Afghanistan, and giving up on Pakistan will leave them fully under the influence of our enemies. It will only enable and expedite what comes next...

Afghanistan will return to Taliban control over time. There will be a fully funded return of Al Qaeda, and if you think 9/11 was bad, imagine what can happen when they have access to nuclear materials and/or bombs.

Now it really is ALL or NOTHING.

Eliminate the threat, or get out and deal with what comes next.

Wouldn't that just exasperate the situation further by staying? Costing us more lives and money?

The/US/West/NATO are already being considered "Imperialists" because of the situation. Meanwhile the likes of China which is basically doing the same thing with Pakistan [which is paying for loyalty] are being considered the good guys. I say let them have at it.

The deal here is that Pakistan is trying to gain a greater influence on and over Afghanistan for it's own benefits. If people cannot get a grip on that tiny bit of reality then whats the point trying to argue the more important and infinitely more complicated related greater Global issues?

Absolutely, when the key players and enemies are in safe havens inside of Pakistan, and the Pakistani ISI and military are aiding them in the war against the US and NATO in Afghanistan.

Osama's compound was in an area in Pakistan where retired high ranked members of the military and ISI live... Was that coincidence?

What other secrets can we find in Pakistan?

Maybe we will see, or if not, then we really do need to leave the region and simply wait to react to future attacks with another war... Either way, we'll have to confront it at some point, is sooner better than later?

You are right about that, yes, the Pakistani dictator government has benefited from the US government that support him, but when it comes to the people, they never has benefited from the US and they has never and will never be friends of the US.

You got to be joking, that man have more lives than a cat, or should I say, than Bin Laden himself before Obama put him to rest.

Unfortunately, I dont think Afghanistan was ever about 9/11, or anything of that nature. Afghanistan is a key strategic location on the globe-and it is one that has been close to impossible to conquer throughout history.

Sure would be a great place to set up camp for a permanent US military presence to me.

there are much better places to set up bases. Afghanistan is a logistical nightmare. The terrain is hostile that people are hostile and the weather is hostile. However if we pull out now it will be viewed as a win to the enemy will only aid to gather their support. I wish it was as simple as some believe it is. If we can pull out by 2014 which I believe is ambitious then hopefully there'll be no need to return.
