Average Bush Tax Cut For The 1% This Year Will Be Greater Than The Average Income Of The Other 99%

The average Bush tax cut in 2011 for a taxpayer in the richest one percent is greater than the average income of the other 99 percent ($66,384 compared to $58,506).

I realize that both left and right sides of our government are slime but at the moment I am laying a huge amount of blame on the right, especially the republicans in Congress. I don't think I have ever seen such blatant cronyism. I don't think I have ever so many traitors to the American People in office at the same time. To the richest 1% 66k dollars/year is hardly worth mentioning.

Super Committee timeline.

October 26, 2011: Democrats first super committee offer is $3 trillion in deficit reduction comprised of about $1.3 trillion in revenues and $1.7 trillion in spending cuts, including cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Republicans immediately reject it. Republicans’ first super committee offer is $2.2 trillion in deficit reduction, which includes no new tax revenues.

November 8, 2011: Republicans’ second super committee offer is $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction. It does include $300 billion in new tax revenue, but in exchange for extending the Bush tax cuts and lowering the top tax rate. The plan would ultimately cut taxes for the wealthy and raise them for everyone else.

November 10, 2011: Democrats’ second offer is $2.3 trillion in deficit reduction, consisting of $1.3 trillion in spending cuts and $1 trillion in revenue. The revenue would be split between $350 billion in concrete measures and $650 billion in future tax reform. Republicans reject it.

November 11, 2011: Democrats agree to Republicans’ top lines including just $400 billion in revenues and $875 billion in spending cuts, but refuse to accept the GOP’s tax cut for the rich. Republicans reject it and make their final offer: $640 billion in spending cuts and $3 billion in revenues.

What the hell? This is so flagrant to me and I don't think it's because I'm left of center. This is outright lapdogs obeying their masters. And if they're doing it to ensure that Obama is a one term President? They're doing it wrong, the American People see right through it as the 9% Congressional approval rating proves. The thing is that the super rich are so rich that they will never feel the effects of an economic collapse so they very visably do not give a damn if the USA comes crashing down around our feet. They are the only ones who have become too big to fail, if the rest of us starve so be it.

Left and right are fake. It is all divide and conquer. I cannot believe that people still have to be told this. Denial much?

It's not a Democrat vs Republican thing but it's still approached that way to continue to divide,conquer and distract.

Yes America, there is a wealth gap. Seven of the top ten wealthiest members in Congress are Democrats.

I think that anything over a modest tax, is devaluing the individual. I don't care about amounts its the principle.

Well of course the Republicans are not going to agree to anything since Obama is president and they can find a way to blame him for not finding a proper resolution of the budget for the next elections. However since all the candidates of the GOP are dumb it will not help them win the elections. They will just help Obama get reelected then they will have to accept budget cuts and tax increase for all as the outlook on the national debt will get worse and worse.

It doesn't matter, nothing matters. The American people enjoy being slaves, they have proven it time and time again. I feel like I just need to die already in order to escape complete hopelessness throughout my life. What is the American dream? Oh yeah, to strive to work the hardest you can to make some rich guy richer while your bills continue to increase and the value of your earnings, which will see increasing taxes, continues to decrease. A few people protesting in the streets isn't enough and probably never will be, either we take action, or we rely on elected officials to do so. All elected officials answer to the men with the money. That wont change unless we change it, and most of us simply don't have the balls to change it.

Now, everyone, calm down...remember those tax cuts were to create jobs.

Seriously, any day now the unemployment rate will be, like four percent cuz those tax cuts to create jobs are going to work.

Why do you assume that the OWS would go "after" anyone if the 1% were to for some reason go extinct? What point are you even trying to make? Very few want the rich to be "conquered"; very many want the rich to stop getting excessive tax loopholes that mean they are NOT paying their fair share of taxes to the government, to the detriment of people who are on programs like Medicare. If the rich were paying their fair share and there wasn't the ridiculous amount of wealth inequality that means the rich continue getting richer while the poor just keep getting poorer, then OWS wouldn't have to exist. When people are homeless and starving and without healthcare in this country, it is a right shame to think that it is "okay" for the richest of the rich to get 66,000 extra dollars that they don't need.

I used to onboard with the whole phony left- right paradigm.
But, no right now, it's definitely a left- right thing. Pretty cut and dry from where I see it.
The republicans are protecting billionaire interests. Billionaires are not paying their fair share.
Not Government stealing their hard earned money. Billionaires don't work. You and I
and the rest of the 99% work. It is they who are Un-American.

Seriously I do agree there's wasteful spending in defense, the spending is out of control across the board.
Government's main reason for existing is defense though.

Maybe we should eliminate some foreign spending too. The waste is beyond comprehension but dealing with it would solve the problem.
