Comet Elenin poses no threat to Earth

www.physorg.com

(PhysOrg.com) -- Often, comets are portrayed as harbingers of gloom and doom in movies and on television, but most pose no threat to Earth. Comet Elenin, the latest comet to visit our inner solar system, is no exception. Elenin will pass about 22 million miles (35 million kilometers) from Earth during its closest approach on Oct. 16, 2011.

OK, OK....

I know this topic has been done to death in other forums, but for many of our members and casual readers, digging around in the other forums can be quite daunting; and this particular piece answers many questions succinctly (which is to say much better than I can.)

Given the interest in the comet itself I was reassured by the statements in the article which makes a strong case for the unlikely and remote possibility that it will have any effect at all on our planet.

Or are they wrong? These are the questions they specifically address:

When will Comet Elenin come closest to the Earth and appear the brightest?

Will Comet Elenin come close to the Earth or between the Earth and the moon?

Can this comet influence us from where it is, or where it will be in the future? Can this celestial object cause shifting of the tides or even tectonic plates here on Earth?

I've heard about three days of darkness because of Comet Elenin. Will Elenin block out the sun for three days?

I've heard there is a "brown dwarf" theory about Comet Elenin. Would its mass be enough to pull Comet Honda's trajectory a significant amount? Could this be used to determine the mass of Elenin?

If we had a black or brown dwarf in our outer solar system, I guess no one could see it, right?

Will Comet Elenin be visible to the naked eye when it's closer to us? I missed Hale-Bopp's passing, so I want to know if we'll actually be able to see something in the sky when Elenin passes.

This comet has been called 'wimpy' by NASA scientists. Why?

Why aren't you talking more about Comet Elenin? If these things are small and nothing to worry about, why has there been no public info on Comet Elenin?

I've heard NASA has observed Elenin many times more than other comets. Is this true, and is NASA playing this comet down?

I was looking at the orbital diagram of Comet Elenin on the JPL website, and I was wondering why the orbit shows some angles when zooming? If you pick any other comet, you can see that there are no angles or bends.

Worth the read... and if there's something wrong with the answers, I suspect Breaking Alternative News readers would be interested in knowing about it...

Thanks for reading!

Well, so much for that doomsday scenario.

-------------
I guess we will have to wait until 2012 for the suns magnetic poles to flip.
Then we will be much more vulnerable to the CMEs.
-----------
The comet Elenin will just be a good show in the night sky.

Don't believe the Elenin fear-porn hype.

After doing a small amount of research I found that there was no threat to us from Elenin and have attempted to belittle all these fame seeking Elenin fear-ragers as much as I can.

Can I be the first to create a thread saying "Bwahahaha" at the doom-mongers once Elenin has passed without incident please?

I guess the doomsday kooks will be wrong again. It's a pity I couldn't get any of them to sign their possessions over to me.

I guess we'll just have to wait for the next set of loons to come out and hype things to the point of hysteria in their own minds.

If this is true, they must have found something else with which to offer a greater
doom factor, and will be trotting it out soon.

I read they just got SETI back up...

I posted on the duplicate thread, so I'll repost it here. Either way I don't trust them, but if anything occurs, feel certain that its them. Considering the name and the date its closest to the sun, the real time it could harm us, it may even just be a sign to those in the know in the world, that soon something big will happen. Like code for something.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The time when there may be some effect is when it reaches its perihelion, for unlike what they're telling, we're in Universe Electric, EU, and comets carry a charge. They interact with the sun. And that in turn interacts with us. If anything happens it will be slight of hand, a false flag, for the perihelion is on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, give or take a few hours. And the comet is named 9/11.

I'm not interested in what is being offered here, so I will wait until end of November 2011 before I will accept that Elenin poses no threat. I assume that this goes the same to anyone who believes theres any significance to the comet so there is no point trying to change our minds. since you know this subject has been overdone so much on ATS then why didnt you just add your thoughts to the other 507 or more threads trying to disprove comet elenin? oh right you need stars and flags to feed you...

I think whatever gets people to relax a little bit would be quite appropriate.

People are losin' their minds a bit lately, but I also don't think it's a bad idea to prepare for any eventuality and not become complacent.

Never forget to go outside, go swimming, get some Sun, and get away from the internet from time to time (i.e. leave the cell phone in the car). :]

1 doesnt understand why this celestial visitor has to be doom and gloom anyway. It does make sense to gather data on any earth bearing object but WHO KNOWS WHAT ITS EFFECTS MAY BRING GOOD OR BAD.... Patience Family

I can't help but feel I 'should' be offended at your closing line. Fortunately, I take the topic seriously enough to allow me to take your comments significantly less so.

Since a number of organizations have bothered to publish articles about this comet I believe some here are interested... as for changing minds... I'm not sure what minds to change, and to what I might expect them to change.

I'm not exactly certain of even what this 'disproves' per se; it's just a compilation of questions with some answers given by a non-anonymous scholar they consulted. And as I have stated again and again, in other threads, I have no blind faith in scientific declarations made for media.

I am interested in any dissent as to these specific comments by a presumptive knowledgeable source... but rather than offer those up, you attempt disparage my ego (unfortunately for you, I can't say that worked out too well.) I'm oddly amused though... thanks for playing.

Like they would say yes it is all true we are toast very soon. They will deny it until there is no denying it.

Not saying I believe it is actually this comet that will bring the end but guarantee if it was we wouldn`t know till it was very clear we are in trouble. I figure it will be when we don`t see a tail on this thing coming at us.

I would like to see an explanation as to what these secret bunkers are all about seeming's how we are paying for them and they are massively stocking them. That to me builds the fear of something bad this way comes. Seen it on youtube so it must be so.

Now to watch youtube and get the real truth debunking this hog wash.

When I hear all these breaking news stories and articles saying do not worry, I hold them in the same belief center as I do with the ones saying something will happen.

I can't wait for this fkr to pass us so either way it can end.

cometphobia is actually perfectly natural and normal:

Tunguska-Psychopathy-and-the-Sixth-Extinction www.sott.net...

It would be naïve to think, however, that one merely has to point to deep-seated cracks in the structure of modern knowledge to have scholars setting to and constructing a better framework within which mankind might plan his future. There is considerable intellectual capital invested in the status quo, enough to ensure that those with an interest in preserving it, the 'enlightened' and the 'established', will continue to present the cosmos to us in a suitably non-violent form. The history of ideas reveals that some will even go further and act as a kind of thought police, whipping potential deviants into line. For them, temporal power takes precedence over the fate of the species. (Clube, The Cosmic Winter)

This problem of the "status quo" and "thought police" is not a minor issue. In this series of articles that were kicked off by Mike Baillie's book New Light on the Black Death, we have repeatedly come face to face with the obvious fact that those in positions of power and authority lie to the masses of humanity as a rule rather than an exception.
Again and again in this series, we have discussed historical cometary bombardments, the consequences for humanity being dire enough to begin with, but which were then exacerbated and capitalized upon by pathological deviants, following which the facts were covered up by lies. Worse, again and again we have seen that the masses of humanity that suffer the most from these assaults and manipulations appear to be quite willing to be deceived even to their own death and destruction (if only someone will give them something warm and fuzzy to believe in and a scapegoat to blame). At present, we are observing this phenomenon playing out on the global stage in real time and again and again we shake our heads and ask "why?!" What is it about our world, our present day culture, the human beings that occupy our planet, that gives rise to this bizarre condition that lies are preferred over truth, death over life?

CATASTROPHES IN HUMAN HISTORY www.barry.warmkessel.com...

ABSTRACT

Throughout history, mankind has feared comets, and perhaps rightfully so. The Egyptian record shows that our civilizations have been ravaged by comet impacts and volcanic eruptions throughout the centuries. Contained herein is an initial list of such catastrophes between 3200 BC and 550 AD. Data has been extracted from thee records and from petroglyphs that put a human face on the scope and magnitude of these catastrophes. This data is presented for the world to see what the past has to offer and imagine what the future contains.

INTRODUCTION

A Catastrophe in prehistory is a very strange subject. I shall attempt to explain it in this way. The whole (Egyptian) prehistory is a constant hymne to the KING, who is able to control everything: the State, his People, the Enemies, the Economy, the Art, etc. Then, suddenly, a Catastrophe occurs. Everybody is surprised that the KING is not able to destroy, remove, or whatever, the Catastrophe. It turns out the Catastrophe is more powerful than the KING. So, everybody is silent, and everybody waits till it is all over. Then people start again all the hymnes about the power of the KING, etc.

So, the result is that there is hardly any information about all these Catastrophes. It is very hard to get data. If there are stories about Catastrophes, these are so-called "Lamentations" without any information about what really happened. It simply is a very strange subject!

4_asteroids_strike_earth_within_a_year_media_c overs_it_up.

that said elenin does not pose a threat at the moment.
oh and the 3 days of darkness are supposed to be about a gimongous cloud of interstellar helium snuffing the sun temporarily. nothing to do with the psyops.

all this is said to have started with zeta-talk

The Planet X, Nibiru Psyops Keeps Going, & Going, & Going, & Going.....educate-yourself.org...

Nibiru was seen by the Sumerian astronomers 3850 BC. It was huge in the sky with a comet tail covering more than half the night sky. Anu and his wife, rulers of Nibiru made a state visit to Earth to view the spectacle. They later went
to Mars to view Nibiru from that planet. At closest approach Nibiru is in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, its orbit never crossed
Earth's orbit.

With 3600 year orbit it should have returned about 150 BC. There is no astronomical record of its return.

If it were somehow missed by the sky watchers of Alexandria, Babylon, Rome, Persia, India and China by showing up on the opposite side of the
sun and it were to return in another 3600 years then it should show up 3450 AD about 1439 years from now.

I was told in 1971 by the Melchizedek teachings that the people of"Maldek" had destroyed their own planet. Maldek/Marduk/Nibiru are the
same planet. I believe the destruction happen about the time of Abraham circa 2000 BC.

OK - that's a solid question!

I found this answer.... but it seems rather 'pat.' I suppose we might say that all the comets we have observed are ice and particulate dust... but I wouldn't say that means this one is.

Comet Elenin is made of the same things that every comet is made of: water ice and dust.

According to Leonid Elenin, its discoverer, its core is about 3 to 4 kilometres in diameter. Once it gets closer to the Sun and heats up, it will lose a lot of water through sublimation, and will occupy a huge volume, but at extremely low density. This is normal behaviour for a comet.

This was an unvetted answer, so a grain of salt may be in order, if you are inclined to think we might not be getting the truth...

So it's 3-5 KM wide and it's closest approach will be about 20 million miles.

How did Elenin-mania begin again...?
