Ok at least u can really see that this is not a hoax. This was in the news. U can hear the guy talk who filmed it and he seems legit to me.
The lights..who knows what it is but when i would see that plasma balls dropping flares like this live i would surely be amazed not matter what my "explanation my mind gives" (its always easy to "debunk wonders" if u see them online)

Is there more footage of this? Did the flares reach the ground? Nice video!

flying slowly, almost hovering
in formation
...whatever was dropping looked like it was burning...

One obvious answer is chinese lanterns, with something burning falling off them.

obvious answer? I would say 2 chinese laterns dropping something with a different color at the same time..staying in a formation..is not a obvious answer but a poor try to follow ones bias in the direction of earthly explanations

Didn't they replicate this on Fact or Faked? It was filmed in FLIR and the "flares" were actually hot, dripping wax from a balloon lantern.

Definately like Fact or Faked Paper Lanterns. Saw somone else posted that on here... good job! Seems like anytime anything is filmed in the sky, they have an Airforce pilot say "...its unlike anything I've ever seen!"

i guess it would be hard to triangulate, as there were only 2 known witnesses.

but i'm guessing they might be able to guess and investigate the area the lights dropped the "flares" onto, for any anomalies, if anyone cared to?

The Fact or Faked linked above doesn't look anything like the OP's video in my opinion. However, I think the Chinook helicopter deserves more attention, as the red lights look like they might be right on.

Wow, this is the first time I've seen footage that is somewhat similar to a sighting I had on new years eve of dec 2009. My wife and I were watching a house for some friend's of ours in Saratoga, CA. Around 11pm we were getting ready to go take a late stroll around the neighborhood and noticed something right above us in the cloud cover.

Peeking between clouds was this large bright orange light, solid in color, and slowly moving towards San Jose. I noticed that it was making no sound whatsoever and there was a structure attached to it as well. The structure was ovoid in shape, so at first I thought it was a blimp, but the color of it was the same as the clouds and the sky, blending in with an orange-pinkish hue. Yet, something was not right. The structure was moving around the light, as a rotor, except very large. It also looked as if it was changing shape as it spun around the light, from ovoid to a rectangle.

This light slowly moved over and away from us, to the valley. Every now and then it would stop and hover. When it did this, a smaller orange light would eject from it straight down. This light would extinguish before it hit the ground, but the speed that it descended was much faster than a flare. It was almost like a shooting star, except orange. After this light ejected, it would continue to move farther away where it hovered again and ejected another light. It did this around 3 times before it was out of sight.

I remember telling my wife's step-dad who is a software engineer for navigation systems at Lockheed, and he was kind of excited about it and even found another person's sighting of the same object on a blog. That stroke me as funny since I've told him about other sightings and theories before, but he would just smile and not talk much. I'll try to find that other sighting account, I remember I tried once and was unable to.

Ahhh.... socialistic tyranny at it's best, now if we could only get that net neutrality law passed here in the US, we could see what it's like in Germany!
