Will this force americans to accept widespread eye-scanners?

If we're about to allow mexican truckers to drive throughout the country, and mexico is about to implement iris-scan id cards... Could this be a way to make americans think we need the scanning tech too?
People are going to want a little more sense of security if this goes bad in any way, and if a country like mexico can take a step like this, surely the US will want to catch up...
