Just a simple little observation, being someone who moved to the mountains seven years ago. It is amazing and quite surprising how many people around here have already formed "community" groups for whatever may come. It isn't spoken of, much, out loud. But in private, trusted conversations...many of us are ready for anything...together. With plans and arrangements in place. And I do mean many.

I'm staying home. I'm a cannibal so i wont have to look far for a lil grub..

CHILDREN!!!!! Calm down and try reading the entire thread before going off on a tangent. Some of the replies to the OP are direct, prime examples of what the OP was pointing out. Firstly, this would be a major SHTF scenario of epic porportions, an event so catastrophic that life as we know it has just went down the crapper forever.

Secondly, the rudeness and ad hominem attacks are a prime example of why there would be problems. Stop and think before jumping to conclusions. Indeed, we all must learn to work together if any of us all going to survive an apochalyptic event, but there will always be a percentage that will ruthlessly take whatever anyonelse has, or attempt to.

We all here are aware of what could happen in any of myraid scenarios to end civilisation as we know it; the whole point is, we are aware; many of us are facing and trying to deal with hard times, yet there is no reason why any of us cannot put forth a little extra effort to at least attempt to insure our own survival, but do not wait until the feces is splattering before doing anything.

You live in a locale that dictates bugging out, best to already be looking for and making preperations as to where you intend to go; if you are an urban dweller, can you plant a field, harvest the crop, and store it long term without refrigeration or electricity? Know how to filter water? or process grain? How to generate electricity?

Seriously, people, instead of carrying on like kids on the playground, stop and think; plan, listen, and learn; there is not a teeming abundance of wildlife and game as most are wont to believe; and it is quite a long time between the planting of crops to the harvesting of same; if the trucks and trains stopped running tomorrow there is only a 3 day supply of food on the shelves at anytime...

Forget about creature comforts and take time to learn just how much is involved in simple survival if you and yours have to do all the work involved.

Agreed. I, personally, know how to live in complete isolation with zero technology and would head as deep into unoccupied country as possible. It's just me traveling, though, so I have nobody else to worry about. For those who do, I certainly hope they have the civility to come ask to work for some food or supplies, or whatever is fair, but you and I both have enough common sense to know that some people will just come to take, and I respect your right to protect YOUR land and property from them. Most of these people are probably lazy socialists. (How dare you not just give all your stuff away to someone unwilling to try to do anything for themselves or anything in return for you???)

Years ago, I witnessed for the first time, a "MOSH PIT" at a concert I was attending. I had not known at the time such a thing existed; I was mystified by watching what was going on in the "PIT." Waxing philosophical later that night, I commented on what I had seen to a couple of friends that were with me. They too were new to this and had never seen it before. Both of them were pretty disturbed by the sight of people engaged in this strange ritual. I replied: "To me it just appeared to be very symbolic of society and the true nature of people", (most anyway) "Every man for himself, rejecting, protecting, pushing, shoving, anyone that gets in his space, get away...get out of my space..."

If you have never witnessed a mosh pit, I suggest you see what it looks like...watch a youtube video of it...the music may NOT be for everyone.




This thread convinces me of what I have believed ever since that day...The World and Life is nothing more than a giant MOSH PIT...ONLY that in a mosh pit there are rules and courtesy...you help someone up immediately if they fall in the pit...is one such rule...there are others.

Those that think they may avoid the approaching wall of desperate humanity on their "homestead" WHEN & IF T.S. ever H.T.F. will have a rude awakening...you will need an Army to protect it especially if it's believed you ain't planning on sharing what you got...

I want to use the 2012 thing as an example. Look for your selves how it has evolved. It has gone from all out dooms day and been reduced to (and I still respect what this guy sayes) Graham Hancock retracting to a Paradigm shift in which you must be elite, totaly intune with your conscience and read the Urantia passeges (Urantia.com) that make you totaly spiritualy worthy, to pass on through the next life......This is a key I live by. If its for sale it cant save me. Again...If its for sale it cant save my soul. Not guns, knives, ammo,preparidness, full tanks of gas, stashed food,you name it. It cant save your soul. It can very well keep you alive to die a calmer death or a more violent death but what we all are searching for cant be found in any pages. I dont have any answers because I think its different for each person. I think we all know. I think we all have to live the good life like it is the only heaven we will get. I think that is the secret.
We can stand guard over our watch with paranoia and wonder what next or we can Live each day to the fullest and have no regrets to the life we live each day.The day to run,,,we will know with out a doubt. JUST LIVE LIFE

I am so glad I grew up in the country- most city dwellers have no idea the strong sense of community and 'let's pitch in and help each other out' mentality that country folk have. And sadly, many will come trying to take whatever they can get with no desire to give anything in return.

You do realize not everyone is going to be heading for the closest woods they can find.
If SHTF, I am going deep out into the woods where I know for a fact there wont be anyone for miles around.
Keep your food, keep your shelter.
I've got mine and you've got yours.

No, but just how many families do you think I could feed and shelter? Are they willing to work the farm? Are they willing to respect the wildlife and not hunt it to extinction? Trust me your gonna WANT to make friends if the SHTF and you have valuable goods. If you come across nice people who needs help, it might be wise to help them, you know why? Because when the "real" bad guys come after you, your gonna need as much backup as possible.

Or it might be wise to go somewhere deep hidden away to avoid trouble?

I don't know, it's really a situation you have to live through to know the true reality of our choices. All we can do now is guess. People say they will do this and that now but if the time comes they might do something different, because reality can change peoples perspective on such topics.

When things go downhill and people start heading for the hills, trucks like this will be of very little use since they consume large amounts of fuel and the occupants have to leave the it's security at one time or another.

It's hard to predict what may happen if things go down hill but I imagine it to be something like this movie, The Road, depicts.



You ought to check the movie out. It's....uh....very interesting....and that's putting it mildly.

What makes you think it is your land? Or any land is yours for that matter? How about you ask a Native American about LAND, he will tell you quite a story. Sure you may occupy "land" and live on land like the rest of us land mammals. Is it your simian alpha male bravado feels threatened because of the prospect of migrants? You can live off the land it is your god given right, it is also OUR right to roam where we choose as it is the being of our species by nature.

The powers that be see it quite differently, it all belongs to them even your body, mind and soul. You think just like them, you sound as if you have no connection to fellow man,. Well them city slickers may very well come. They may very well camp out in your back yard. What are you going to do about it? Im sure there are far more city folk than whatever ammo you may acquire. In your shoes i would not bother them and im sure they will not bother you. All hellmay break loose, but if you lose your humanity you wont make it very long. You will need these people more than you know as well as they will need you.

Actually, you are partially right, but you are also partially wrong, sooner or later you will need more than just your family and neighbors, and btw I lived in Wyoming for 5 years, and I learned by experience that most of it is owned by people who had that land handed to them through generations, yes they worked that land, but it was given to them by their parents, or some other family member, and if you look back some of that land was acquired illegally, and to the point of murdering the real owners in order to get more land for cattle.

A lot of land in Wyoming is also owned by rich people who live in other states.

I am not saying you, or every farmer/land owner has such a dark history, but there is enough to make one wonder.

Back in the days cattle barons would even invent, and falsify statements, plus they would bribe other farmers, and people in town to speak bad about someone else.

This reminds me of the story of Cattle Kate, aka Ellen Watson, most people believe that the cattle baron Albert John Bothwell was the wronged party, even to this day, when in fact he bought witnesses, and lied about Cattle Kate, even claiming she was a prostitute who had stolen cattle, but in fact she bought the cattle which were near starving for $1 each, and the allegations of her being a prostitute were a lie as well. Anyway, the rich cattle baron bought off some men and they caught Cattle Kate and her husband and hanged them. The rich cattle baron took their property for his own, not one man, not even the rich cattle baron were even arrested. The rich cattle baron bought off the judge and jury.

The history of the west is riddled with similar cases, so you have to wonder how many people this day and age actually got their lands from their ancestors which was stolen, and for which they murdered.

Some people really have no idea how violent the countryside used to be, and that's everywhere in the planet.

When TSHTF it will be a bad time FOR EVERYONE, including those people in the countryside.

When it hits the fan, you will own what you can protect. That's it.

First of all, I want to start this off with this. Knowledge is power. When SHTF whats wrong with sticking together? We have to fight just like you have to fight. Surely you don't think you can win by yourselves? If things get bad thats when we as a human race need to stick together and realize what we're up against.

Killing each other for being on each others property is already here in the modern society. Yea, I understand being careful of grimy people but everybody isn't like that. People need to get their knowledge on how to hunt, cook, and all thats stuff while they can, hell, all you need is Google and Ebay.

OP is correct, if you plan to head to the hills, go now. As for me, I stay in GA I'm already in the "hills" lol catch me if you damn can suckers.

This entire thread is fantastic; in fact it inspired me to finally sign up and participate instead of lurking as I have for so long.

OP makes an excellent point that I am having a hard time seeing a reason for the resentment towards her for giving everyone a heads up. If you try to take foodstuffs from a rancher / farmer without a friendly barter you will be shot at a majority of the time. This is just the way it is.

I do believe there are very few legitimate SHTF scenarios where this could happen though. The more likely victims are those "smart" suburban people who have stockpiled enough food to feed their family for a year through a tough time. There is a reason a big selling point of bomb shelters is a good thick hatch and a strong lock.

As a semi related side note IMHO I believe that a person would be crazy to leave their community for any reason short of imminent physical threat to life (ie fall out, alien death rays etc...). I feel like after an initial shock communities would band together and learn to survive as a community. We are very clever monkeys who really want to live and instinctively know we live best with other clever monkeys.

How much good has it done them in Iraq and Afghanistan? They can't seem to route out a few thousand insurgents in robes with Ak's???

The military does not have the logistics to march all over the country side in this country especially after a SHTF scenario. WE are thier supply lines. They could never control this land mass and they know it. They could control a few cities at best. Many of those country boys were trained by them too so they know thier tactics. It would be the military worst nightmare facing the most well armed, well trained resourceful guerilla army in the history of the world.
