This is a disaster for all news junkies. The MSM is so corrupt & dishonest, I trust nothing that comes thru them. The info is "shaped" and so limited in scope.

Without the Internet, there is NO REAL NEWS.

We will no longer know what's really going on in the world. Which is just what Big Brother wants. These are truly dark days.

Thank for the link. Hope it stands true, although there was some terminology that hinted at a possibly more controlled internet.

More controlled yes, we can't get away from that, it just won't happen as fast as the article in NYT suggests. And i really don't think Google will be backing this since they're one of the companies pushing FOR net neutrality.

Dont these people realise that if they mess up the internet there is gonna be alot off pissed of people in the world and im talking millions that will boycott the service all together. If it happens i will just find a new way to pass my time.

I think that if the internet is restricted and censored in such a way people will just not bother anymore why use the internet just to do shopping ffs.

Do they not realize the people only use the internet due to the freedom of it.

Good luck fighting big brother over there.. At least here in asia aside from censoring porn or sites that are extreme in anti government views can access most sites on web... And yes can even get ATS in china. Only thing can figure is the american government is afraid the american people will learn just how much propaganda theyre fed and revolt .. Thus the talk of shutting down and or censoring the web there..

The worse thing about this is, if it does happen then the sheeple wont realise because all thier normal sites like bbc/skynews/facebook will all still be avalible, They will not see the bigger picture of what implications this censorship holds. But for the majority of people on this site, and allot of people who i know - this really isnt good.

The United States gave us internet as a more interactive means of communications with the idea of everything being free and open for the main reason of collecting information. Don't think for a minute that what you say online is anonymous or untraceable.

They gave us this tool so they could keep an eye on whats happening because they couldn't tap and control paper based mail.

It happened on telephone systems, why wouldn't it happen over the internet? Every single telephone system in North America is tappable without your knowing.

The Patriot Act provides even more enhanced ability to know everything happening online.

We are only anonymous to each other, not the Big Brother.

Let's put it this way...

The loss of net neutrality will be one of the BIGGEST hits to global freedom of information EVER SEEN. And if this does happen, I hope people will see to it that those responsible are brought to swift justice.

However...
If big brother does win out and our beloved (seriously) internet is raped and pillaged, then FINE, a lotta luck to the powers that be if they want to track, trace, and data mine us. We'll simply revert to in-person discussions and leave the idiot boxes like humans did throughout history before we had out flashing screens to titillate us.

Seriously though, when I REALLY think about the severity of these corporate threats to net neutrality... it's actually shocking and I almost cannot believe we could possibly see such an outcome. It's disgusting and completely unacceptable that this is even a POSSIBILITY.

To everyone who wants complete de-regulation of big business...

I had a feeling it couldn't be this way forever.

I agree with psilo simon and have been buying books like crazy for the day when the net becomes like tv, a corporate mouth piece.

Our freedoms have been slowly stripped away from us a little at a time and the cattle is being herded onto the truck bound for the slaughter house.

I am so glad I don't live in the US and if I did I'd just move out of the country. The internet is something very precious, it is the voice of mankind. Let it be heard!

They have to take the internet away from us. They see it as a threat to them `which it is`. If they regulate the internet like they want then it would be hard if not impossible for people to unite and have a revolution against there corruptness. Its going to happen. They have supper computers and strategic planners working to figure ways the best ways to enslave us. Total power is what they want anyone who apposes will be eradicated and labeled terrorist. We only have a short time to unite the American citizens and mow down Washington. I seriously doubt any one will though. It fun to think about it but when it all boils down we Americans are lazy and unmotivated just the way they want us to be. I find it comical to watch there plans unfold. I gota hand it to `The power that be` they know what there doing. Good by Internet but you can say hello to a war with Iran and Russia here real soon.
