I have notes written on my hand right now! It pretty darn convenient! So much easier than lugging my teleprompters everywhere with me.
I kinda like her a little more for doing something like that. It makes her more approachable, more like one of us.

I am no fan of Sarah Palin, but really, I don't see the big deal.

What is her message, that is what is important. Not where she wrote it down or how she reads it. It's what she is saying.

This is not important breaking political news in my opinion.

Perhaps, but would the Rabid Right be as kind to Obama given the same circumstances? Flat out no...they'd be having a huge heyday at his expense.

But go ahead...elect her. It will be interesting to see how the Republicans end up blaming her bumbling on the left.

On a totally unrelated note...anyone watch Idiocracy?

Ya know, the lady is a polarizing figure. Some things simply don't add up. For some of us, she is like a siren, while others find this woman quite normal.

In my assessment, she is like a caricature of herself. She is wrapped in her own "finger-quotes." In the parlance of Gertrude Stein, she is a thing about a thing but not the real thing.

And a direct quote from Ms. Stein:
"A real failure does not need an excuse. It is an end in itself."

Sorry to keep stoking my own thread. I am striving to get my first solid blue letter by generating the hoopla. Then my Signature can read: LAG CONTRIBUTION LEVEL and I'll be well on my way to boasting of being the tallest Munchkin in Munchkinland. (One full letter in only two years, not too shabby.) You all must really like me.

The only reason this is an important happenstance... is that there is absolutely zero reason to have to write that down. That is a huge glimpse into her mental capacity, and it doesn't look good.

Why write down 'energy' ? What energy? Do you mean renewable energy? Or drill baby drill? Hell, she didn't even know.. she just said "we need to do energy projects we heard about" ... wow, glad she's got the answer.

Tax cuts? lol If you're a republican and you need to write down "tax cuts" you're f-ing retarded. (hehehe see what I did there here watch me again.. ) Don't get mad at me for calling a retard, a retard. Um.. satire!

Lift American Spirits? And you can't remember to lift american spirits, because.. ?

It has become quite apparent to me that Sarah Palin is our next president

The only way to keep the sheeples involved in the left vs right paradigm anymore it seems is to offer the obvious answers.

Bush was the antithesis of Clinton...
Obama was the antithesis of Bush....
And Palin is the antithesis of Obama.

No need to think, we'll be so sore with Obama, a literate and well educated Law Professor, that the sheeples are going to sign over their first born to have Palin, a barely educated sports journalist, as their President.

You heard it here first... Palin is chosen as next in line.

Yo, Mr. Canadian - so worried about what is happening in the U.S. when Canada could really use your help on so many of its own issues ...

Are you referring to the obama that is currently president and thus has real power to change (liberal euphemism for screw things up even worse) things around down here in the U.S.? And are you comparing obama to Palin, who currently has only the power to make speeches?

Are you actually calling them equals and giving them the same playing field to play on?

BTW, how's this year's baby seal population doing? And did the premier of Nova Scotia ever get down here for the heart operation he says he never even considered going to Canada's "vaunted" medical system for?

See, you do have your (own) work cut out for you.

Yo...you with the Action Avatar. When you guys wallow in poo, it splashes up here as well, so we pay attention. Besides...our right wing PM called a holiday on Parliament, so there's not much else to do until the Olympics. And I am very involved in our own issues, thanks.

Hey...Why did the chicken cross the road? To ask the Governor General to prorogue Parliament.

What I am doing is pointing out that a whole lot of you guys seem to think she is Presidential material. Further, she gets a pass whereas if Obama walked on water, you'd accuse him of knowing where the rocks are. Don't go getting all disingenuous when even us foreigners can see the partisan rot setting in.

Baby seals? Fine, I guess. I support the Newfoundlanders in their traditions. How come you don't get your knickers in a knot when they blow the arse off a moose? They just don't melt your heart like the seals do?

Oh, and that was the premiere of Newfoundland...it's an island in the North Atlantic. Your much-vaunted educational system didn't point that out? So some Americans go to Canada for specialised surgery...Danny Millions went to the States. Big deal...seems to affect you more than it does us...mind you we're pretty happy with the system.

C'mon up and visit...especially Newfoundland...we'll leave a light on.

That is just beyond stupid.

In my personal opinion, Palin should have either known her sh*t before the speech or she should have had it written down on a note card, not her hand.

However, what the media has been doing over this, and what Gibbs did, is beyond immature. A few minutes ago, I was watching World News on ABC and they talked about this for just a second. Diane Sawyer acted like she wanted to laugh the entire time. I wanted to shake her and ask her "How old are you?!" I mean, good lord, the woman had a few words written down on her hand. She didn't spill valued secrets or anything like that. I just don't understand why this is even worth mentioning on any news program with everything that is going on in the country right now, let alone the entire world.

I think what most people are trying to say, is that Sarah Palin criticizes Obama for using a teleprompter, yet she is caught note handed, ha, with her crib notes.

What the point is, is that her crib notes are not very different from the purpose of a teleprompter, both are to remind the speaker of certain topics, so it's kinda karma, what goes around comes around, or the saying of practice what you preach.

Her crib notes just aren't as technologically advanced as Obama's teleprompter

And I side with the fact that she pokes and criticizes Obama for using the teleprompts, while forgetting to erase her FEW main topics, which are basic citizens topics.

Yes perhaps your right. But I don't think this is a big deal. Believe me, I am no fan of Palin, just look at my posts to determine that. But there are more legitimate things to blast Caribou Barbie on than notes on her hand.

Friend, you get a star for the "Caribou Barbie" sobriquet alone. I agree that this is funny and all too human. I'm addressing Town Council next week and I'll be reading my presentation, so I understand the concept all too well.

The irony is all about the slagging Obama is taking for using a teleprompter...and Caribou Barbie writes notes on her hand and gets a pass. The Right oughta get off the indignation pony and have a well-deserved laugh at themselves. That is not necessarily a bad thing...nor is it partisan. Jeez...lighten up!

...and kudos for the Tom Robbins avatar, too.

Really, I mean when the time comes that I have to present a statement to the press or to the House I would love some notes. What do people expect, these politicians to know everything by heart and be able to repeat verbatim what they want to say?

If I did that you would hear the most messed up stuff. Some reporter would ask me a question and I would be saying, "Who gives a flying [snip]?" Of course that would be all over the news and your detractors would use that against you constantly.

So whether it's a teleprompter or notes on the hand what does it matter? What the message is, is what is important.

Yet another Palin attack thread brought to you by the fearful left.

I was thinking about this last night. I lean left politically and the above response was directed at me, even though I didn't start the thread, so I'll respond to it.

I'm not afraid of Palin in the least. She is impotent. What does concern me, though, are the people in this country who are so enamored by her cutsey-ness, her winks, her talking points and her fake down-home charm, that they might actually use their votes to put her in a position of power. THEN is when I will be concerned for my country. Not for myself, because for me, it doesn't really matter who the president is. I'll never need an abortion or have to go to war. I'm smart enough to have myself settled in life in a place where I could pretty much live out the rest of my days without ever having to depend on society at large. I'm pretty well set. But I love my country and it's just now being pulled out of the crapper and I'd hate to see it get sucked back in by someone who has NO CLUE about world history, politics or what this country is really all about.

I'm afraid of the ignorance blatantly displayed by her followers: Signs that read "No Pubic Option!" "Keep out the Muslins!" I'm afraid of the uneducated and willfully ignorant who think putting Palin in the most powerful position in the world would be the right thing to do.

So, yeah, I'm afraid. But not of Palin. I'm afraid of the ignorance.

I've heard many people express confusion that she had to write down these most basic words and phrases at all. After all, if they are that important, they should be close to her heart and therefore on the tip of her brain.

The truth is... they are NOT close to her heart. She did it because she thought her people would like to hear them and she wanted to remember to say them a lot. Any time she got stuck, she could "talk to the hand" and get an idea of the next thing to say. The ideas of tax cuts, energy (oil) and the "American Spirit" (patriotism) are VERY central to both The Republican AND Tea Parties. The fact that she had to write them down should be a red flag to any thinking person.

These ideas aren't close to her heart. She's campaigning and wanted to be sure to say what SHE THOUGHT her people wanted to hear. In other words, she was being her sneaky self. As one would expect.

If we saw what was close to her heart and on her mind, it would have looked more like this:

Ha ha. More approachable? If elected, I suspect the Secret Service might frown on approachability. That's just Wasilly.

Honestly I'm not sure "one of us" is capable of successfully handling a position of such scope, importance, responsibility and power. Sure we all want someone who represents Middle America and working blue collar values, but that is a Catch 22. The role requires vast knowlegde of laws, treaties, world events and protocol.

I'd suggest Ms. Palin offers none of the above. I actually don't know ANYONE in my vast circle of personal, academic and professional acquaintences who might qualify. Most certainly not any former beauty queens or half-term Governor's who could barely run a bake sale, let alone a country.

So does your post mean you swallowed the photoshopped image in BH's post as factual???

Perhaps he was responding to her sentiments...and the photo was obviously meant to be facetious...c'mon, eh? Your response says more...in my humble foreign opinion...about your own credibility. Lighten up...Palin's gaffe is a non-partisan funny! Enjoy it as such...before things get really dirty again.

Thanks Johnny. I thought that was pretty clear, but for anyone else whose head it went zooming over, don't be fooled! That is MY hand. Sexy, huh?
The picture was taken months ago for a completely different purpose. I added the text, thinking it would be a clever, light-hearted addition to my otherwise very serious post.

You're kidding, right?

I agree with a lot of the sentiment here. Palin's a good source of comedy. Just as Bush sometimes was, and just as Obama sometimes is.

What absolutely isn't funny (and yes, even "frightening" if it will appease my right-wing brothers), is that Palin had to remind herself of her core beliefs before going into a question and answer session.

Obama uses teleprompters to give speeches. Palin used notes to give her speech. Anyone who believes she wasn't reading a pre-written speech either didn't see the speech, or is willfully ignorant. What doesn't fly in the world of politics is using crib notes during an interview. Obama doesn't do it. Hell, Bush didn't even do it.

All politicians use pre-written speeches. Do you think Lincoln freestyled "four score and seven years ago"? Do you honestly believe that "Ich bin ein Berliner" was improvised on the spot? However, having to remind yourself of three simple talking points to hold your own in a simple question-and-answer setting is fairly embarrassing.

We can call this Palin-ophobia or Palin Derangement Syndrom or whatever fancy words you feel like making up. When push comes to shove, if this is what we have to look forward to as the cutting edge of American politics, then we should all be very worried. Not for partisan reasons, but for the sake of our children, and our country. Anyone who can't see that is only contributing to the problem.
