The video embedded within the ABC link has footage of an MRAP parked against a red volkswagon beatle, on American soil. MRAPs are a military vehicle. It is like having government tanks in the streets. Do you, the people, like what you are seeing? Do you think that this is a healthy thing to see in our nation? Many of you will think back to the words of Gerald Celente recently, declaring that the second American Revolution is now under way. I am beginning to agree with him.

Did you know that is a bomb squad truck and the person in the vw bug called in a bomb threat to the White House and when they showed up at his house he drove away in his car.

Ill be the first to admit I don't want the military on the streets.

But in Vancouver, after our '94 riot, the police were given a couple APC's to deal with these situations. I believe the use of military vehicles by police is far different than the military, using military vehicles, like police.

You realize he's the president, right? OK just checking.

Shhh, it's alright, no ones coming to take your guns, don't worry.

That suits me. Whatever they need to do to protect the President they need to do.

/Sarcasm_ON

OMG! The police forces having as good or better protection than the military in a dangerous situation; heaven forbid the police should not die needlessly.

/Sarcasm_Off.

Since when have the police not had military gear?

Next you'll be saying they are not allowed to have protective vests, or robots to check for bombs????

Seriously though, when will people bother to add 2+2 and get 4 anymore?

The fact is the MRAP vehicle can survive IED's and has. Had the gentleman in question decided & had the ability to blow himself up, the officers in such vehicles have a better than good chance of survival.

In 2008, a soldier in the US Army Special Forces wrote a note on the door of a MRAP. The note reads "This truck saved my life as well as 5 others on 02 Apr 08 at 2300 in Basrah, IZ."

Source en.wikipedia.org...

Do we need senseless loss of life among our police officers? NO.

Did the suspect in question, be taken with out loss of life. YES.

So what the hell is the problem here?

I swear that 99% of the time people on ATS want nothing more to show the potential wrong side of anything.

Any government agency, eg POLICE, if they can get suitable funds from their respective agencies can get such vehicles.

A little more fact finding, less hysteria please.

There isn't any evidence of the army being involved. I couldn't say for sure whether that vehicle is an MRAP, but where do you know that only the army uses them? Using something like that would make perfect sense, if this vehicle was connected with a bomb squad.

In the meantime I don't see any soldiers out there, just policemen. Looks like the Secret Service and the local police have it under control, at least for now.

Keep moving, nothing to see here, folks...

I'M GETTING really SICK AND TIRED OF THESE "SKY IS FALLING" panicy, cowardly BS crap from "patriots"!
Try some real evidence, not paranoid knee jerk "I hate Obama" wastes of time posts. Honestly, try some concern for your country and respecting the democratic process, IE. the election!

Bagari is right that isn't even an MRAP. What happened to using the actual story headline in breaking news forums.

The President of the United States is the most heavily gaurded and secured person on the face of the planet.

Obama is even more protected that most Presidents because if violent death were to befall him depending on the circumstances it could lead to riots similiar to when Martin Luther King was killed or the Jury in the Rodney King Case declared the Police Officers who brutalized him innocent of misconduct.

I am sure when he is out of the White House they mobilize a small army of Secret Service, FBI, Air Force Intelligence, Army Green Beret Special Forces and local and state Law enforcement where he is travelling in to, that probably number well above 600 people and likely well over a thousand in most places in a coordinated effort using intelligence, preping the ground, securing the area, and escape routes.

Secret Service War Wagons, typically Chevrolet or GMC Suburbans or Yukons are heavily armored and have ground to air missle launchers on board and a small tactical team that are heavily armed with the most sophisticated and lethal weaponry known to man.

When you start to see full blown Military Parades at Brigade Strength when he goes somewhere, then we have a problem.

In the meantime it's just the day to day normal grind of them trying to protect a person that most Americans love to love, but who represents a target of opportunity of incredible reknown for people opposed to the American way of life near and far.

I think that's what bothers people. JFK clearly fell out of favour enough to lose his protection. The fact that Obama is being better guarded than the second coming of Jesus just solidifies how deep in bed he is with the people we wish he wasn't in bed with.

The Bush family has never liked the Kennedy family. Some times it pays to get along just to keep getting on if you know what I mean!

Compensation was paid, no harm no foul.

Game on, let's plaaaay balllll.

Based on your original title is what i am responding to.

The army is not and cannot be held accountable for his security. This is why we have other far more effective sectors when handling such situations.

Yeah, no one was getting tasered, beaten or brutally killed on video, so of course it got ignored. Sadly.

If it doesn't paint the police in a bad way, then it won't get stars and flags. Makes you wonder who the real enemy here is doesn't it?

I felt the need to respond to this.

The poster raised a valid point about specialised vehicles (with a military appearance) being used on US soil. That is a fair question considering the recent concerns about the the Posse Comitatus Act.

Not everything is designed as an attack against your "Dear Leader"

And, speaking of respecting the Democratic Process and concern for country... where is all the concern by Obama supporters over the closure of Guantanamo, the recall of troops from Iraq, the control of funds to the Banking elite, the ending of torture or prisoners...
All of those things (and there are a lot more) your new president swore he would do while campaigning. Has he done ANY of those things?

ENOUGH ALREADY with the blind support for your great President!
Admit it, nothing has changed, you're still screwed, your banking elite still own your ass, people are still held without charge, people are still transported for torture, troop numbers are increasing...

I loved the idea of Obama finally getting into office and undoing all the damage Bush did, starting with Guantanamo.
And guess what, I no longer believe a word he says.

Rant over.
