Muttering has come to BelowTopSecret.com!

A brand new feature has been launched on BelowTopSecret.com... the "Mutter Box."


We closed-down a few threads that became "overly chatty" a few weeks ago, but that doesn't mean we haven't recognized the need or desire for a significant segment of our members to engage in a long-running chat-like conversation... we just prefer that it not happen in threads.

The new Mutter Box is a custom designed running-chat solution, specific to the BelowTopSecret.com website. It appears in the right-side column of every thread, is open to all members (for now), but is visible only to members, not guests.

Mutters are short comments of 222 characters or less.

Mutters may contain BBcode for links, but nothing else (for now).

Mutters fall under all normal Terms & Conditions.

Since muttering is a real-time live posting, just like chat, if we're forced to remove your mutter you'll be immediately post-banned. Then you need to work out reinstating your member status with the staff member how removed your mutter.


This is in "beta" phase right now, and we'll add several improvements over time. Including some flashier new design, and a way to review more than 100 of the most-recent mutters.

Good idea. It works well on Isohunt, but tends to be new guys getting put in their place by Trollster Mods are kept busy

It's encouraging to see how often the proprietorship of ATS attempts to accommodate the various factors which continually challenge the bounds of which they have previously set. It is indubitably difficult to predict and adapt to such unforeseeable circumstances, and I commend their ability to adapt on a consistent basis.

Well i think this is pretty cool, better if it was in a pop up window so you can still browse, but i know nothing of how these things work so dont know how difficult it would be , but i think its an exellent addition

You can always use multiple tabs. Keep the mutter box open in one tab while you browse in another.

Hi Ashleyd hows you, thats what im doing just now, i' very nosey though scared i miss something lol........... what with nasa tv, breaking news posts and threads i need another monitor
