You have to be a lot more specific when you ask a question like that.

Don't expect me to fill in the blanks.

Not exactly like Bush kept bi-partisan company, and I think we all remember the Attorney General Gonzalez scandal.

Gonzalez fired 9 for incompetence. Clinton fired all of them for political reasons.

How is that any different?

Damn straight it's not his business.

Geez...So he asked if someone owns a gun...so what.

All of this "none of his business" BS.

He isn't entitled to know if you own a gun that is unregistered? Or has been used in a crime?

Does anyone remember the McCain VP Questionaire?..
Have you ever paid for sex?
Have you been faithful in your marriage?
Have you ever used or purchased drugs?
Have you ever downloaded pornography?

It's a Government Job for goodness sake. For all we know the FBI suggested he include those questions about whether someone owns a gun! Makes sense to me.

I don't see how this is hostile towards gun owners.

You're applying for a position in the federal government, you don't think they are going to ask you if you've ever owned, or currently own, a gun?

Bunch of regular Einstein's in this thread.

First of all it's illegal to ask questions of anybody as to your political or religious or your constitutional leanings to apply for a federal job. They can't ask for any sexual preferance or whether or not you vote. Doing this for any other job is grounds for suit. Just ask your local job bank what they can ask you. If McCain asked that question for a job app. he broke the law. If Obama intends to use this form of questionaire he too is breaking the law. Only questions that pertain to legal job requirements are correct and legal!

I'd like for you to cite that source.

Also, religious organizations are not churches. He is not asking what church they go to.

Even Fox News can see why he is doing this:

Fox News

COLMES: Didn't we see, though, during the Clinton administration people like Lani Guinier have to step down from a potential appointment because of something to do with someone who worked in her house and whether or not there was — and that's one of the questions, did you ever have any illegal immigrants.

KASICH: Alan.

BECKEL: Yes, but.

COLMES: I mean, isn't this avoiding those kind of problems?

BECKEL: . what is the connection between that and who's on your Facebook? And what kind of e-mails you may have sent that may be embarrassing? I can't remember all the e-mails I sent but I'm guaranteeing you some were embarrassing.

He knows people are gunning for him, and he's just watching his own rear. Sadly, people will try to use this kind of stuff against him, instead of real politics.

This is why OUR nation was set up with such "checks and balances". Changing the constitution isn't just done, by Obama or anyone else. That is unless you believe he will dismiss the Supreme Court and Congress, and get away with it.

Have you ever heard of a little thing called "martial law"? Which essentially puts all 3 branches (your "checks and balances") under direct control of the executive branch?

You really refuse to believe Obama will do that, don't you. Just wait. It'll be "for your own good," you see. This is how cattle are led to slaughter. Unaware of what's happening...until it's too late.

Exactly.

And some positions are likely to require a security clearance.

Here is what they WILL care about: if you had a gun, and you weren't registered according to the law.

Or it may be a requirement of the Secret Service----remember there have been many, anomalously many, threats against Obama.

Let's stop with the paranoia until the time that they actually discriminate without relevant cause about gun owners.

The Bush Administration explicitly asked its prospective employees in the administration in Iraq about their political position on abortion.

You have to look into issues like this before it becomes too late. That's what people are questioning here.

With obama's voting record on firearms, people also have a right to be wary of him and his actions - such as this application.

When you finally come to realize that the commercials with obama saying he supports our right to own firearms and protect ourselves is a lie, you honestly have to start asking yourselves what else that obama said just to get elected was also a lie.

It's nothing new that political candidates will say whatever they have to say and make whatever promises they need to make in order to get your support, then once they get into office, they do whatever they want. It is absolutely amazing as to how quickly people forget the past. I agree with another poster in this thread that people are so desperate to believe in something or someone that can "save" us from all this impending doom that some will grasp onto anything for dear life. People are calling Obama the Messiah and are treating him like one even though making empty promises and telling people what they want to hear before elections only to then do whatever they want afterwards is common and indeed expected at this point.

The blindness of Obama's "sheeple" amazes me to no end. Obama has so many of these sheeple up his butt that I can't tell where he ends and they begin. If Obama went on TV and said "Hey, I'm a socialist and I want to control everything. I lied about this, this and this and you people bought it and now I'm here and I will make myself dictator and you can't do anything about it!", people would STILL be making excuses for him. "Oh, the tape was edited" or "It was just a bad signal and only SEEMED like he said that" or "No, THIS is what he really meant, you all are just being paranoid and looking for things to hate Obama for." Amazing.

By the time you people realize how bad you're being had, it'll be too late. Hell, maybe it already is, but do you have to make it so obvious that you have blinders on to the world? These candidates and political figures deserve all the criticism and flack we can give them and have absolutely no right to the benefit of the doubt at this point. If there's nothing to find, then they have nothing to worry about. The guy won't even prove he's a US citizen, yet his followers see nothing wrong with that. Who cares if the President isn't a US citizen, uh, what? Have you lost your mind?

Another paranoia thread.

No one here knows if that wasn't added as a security measure added by the secret service or other security agency.

Anyone applying for a job with this administration will be subjected to a security background check, and if your not familiar with the process, it can be considered quite intrusive for some.

To protect members of the administration as well as federal employees, It would seem to me this is a rather non eventful case of sensationalism once again.

I think it is pretty damn sad that our new President elect is so worried about farmers and their pitch forks and who they know when we have a global catastrophy going on. Point of the matter is this, if you are going to be on his cabinet, and he wants you to fill out a "questionaire" about priors, of course you arent going to say yes to anything that may prevent you from getting in(just like how he got in office).
If he doesnt already have trust and knowledge in the people he wants in the cabinet, they dont deserve to be in the cabinet. All that shows me is that he doesnt know wtf he is doing. "fill this out and I will get back to you"
Yea I heard that crap when I applied for Fed-Ex. I didnt get that job btw.

I think it's reasonable for him to ask the majority of the questions on this application. However, Obama was elected by the media and there may be some persons wishing to cause him harm.

Presidents, congressmen and even mayors are media targets for any "unsavory" activity. They have high profile jobs and make big money, but it's still just High School when there is something to gossip about. Digging up events from ten years, fifteen years or sometimes earlier in someone's life to ridicule them in the mass media is what politics really is about. Regardless of the supposed power of their positions, money makes the only real decisions that affect us as a people. They are just stuffed shirts trying to avoid personal scrutiny and ridicule so they continue to make their big bucks.

Obama's questionnaire didn't ask, "Do you or your family members own a gun or know someone that does who would probably shoot me?" He just asked it because he's trying to ban ownership of all firearms and can't have people in his cabinet that own one. Next there will be no swearing allowed and Taco Bell will be the only restraunt left standing. Demolition Man anybody?

OK...These questions...Both McCain's VP Questionairre and Obama's staff Application...NEITHER ask about ANYTHING you mentioned.

McCain asking if you have been faithful in your marriage or paid for sex is not the same as aking if you are gay or straight.

Obama asking if you own a gun, If it is registered or if it has been used in a crime IS NOT the same as asking are you a guns rights advocate? Do you belong to the NRA or what is your interpretation of the 2nd amendment.

Geez you got 5 stars? Doesn't anyone think anymore? The question isn't illigeal...either were McCain's...

the whole Questionaire for upper level positions ->

appears to augment a standard BI (background investigation),
if the 1st screening layer , the questionaire, is found to be 'inexact'

that would automatically trigger a deeper investigation of that individual.
which i think is the purpose of the 63 questions which some say are too 'personal'

~~~~~
the Obama team is making a potential client-employee submit a document which can later be used as a leverage instrument...
If truly 'false' statements are made, that would not necessarily exclude the person from the administrative position...
theis is where the 'leverage' comes into play...
If arguably 'inexact' statements are made in the pre-BI, Questionaire,
then 'leverage' can also be put into play.
all-in-all, this document is being used to probe deeper into personal history, so that intrusive applications become accepted and normal...
and we thought the neocons were bad
These people are getting excited over an application, but they won't even bat an eye at domestic spying legislation or the Patriot Act.
Talk about hypocritical.
If all US citizens carry guns as it is a so called right then think what would be the effect on it. It seemed the guy/gal who wants guns need to show their power to those who do not have them. The other factor isn't it a failure of the so called law and order enforcement that they cannot protect citizens in the US so the people have to protect by themselves? Also, if no guns then robbers, thugs and killers would not have them either and no need to think about having a gun of your own. Look at the world outside and see what a failure from the law enforcement that the citizens of the USA have to own guns to protect them and their families. It is a shame and it is okay to learn a few god habits from the rest of the world.
