Germans -- is it true EVERY German child in Germany gets 800euros a month free (about US$1,256) from the German Goverment for 18 years?

(Used to be 800marks)

When did this start?
What's the official name of the program in German and in English?

I heard this about 12 years ago from a friend whose daughter was a doctor in Germany. Even doctor's kids each get the same amount as blue collar kids?

What if you have 10 kids? -- that's 8,000 euros (about $12,560).

MOD-EDIT: I had to shorten the title because it distorted the page.

Thank you for mentioning “kindergeld”! Can someone who reads German please go to the website and try to figure it out? I’m mixed up is the monthly amount per every child for the first 18 years is Euro154 or Euro800 – which is a big difference. I’m wondering if the Euro800 is the parents income limit? …or the amount each child gets. ALSO, if it’s limited to poor people or to everyone. Thanks. In German -- www.arbeitsagentur.de... In English -- copy & paste url into browser (remember to take spaces out) http :// translate. google . com/translatehl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.arbeitsagentur.de/kinderzuschlag&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dkindergeld%26hl%3Den%26 rls%3DGGLJ,GGLJ:2006-42,GGLJ:en

(NOTE: this was translated automatically from German to English by the internet, so the translation may be a bit rough in places.) Can someone who reads German confirm the translation in all quotes?

Thanks. You're in France? Are you a German citizen in France? ...or a French citizen in France?

Also, is this payment of 150 regardless of the amount of income of the parents?

Does France still pay unemployed (French citizen) actors a special monthly income for being an actor?

Does Amsterdam still pay unemployed (Holland citizen) writers a special monthly income for being a writer?

Hi,

I live in Germany and we get 154 EUR per child a month for the first three and 179 EUR for each additional child until the kids are 18. If they study afterwards, this payment is extended until they are finished with their studies, start working or are 26 years of age, whichever comes first. This is regardless what your income is.

Doesn't sound too bad, huh?

But remember we pay about US$8.60 a gallon for gas and our tax load is rather hefty as well.

How interesting! -- AND that's the amount couples and parents get -- REGARDLESS if they are a doctor or teacher or unemployed? ...or, only if they are unemployed?

AND, you said this is until the child is 3 years old? ...then when they are six, they get 200 bucks a month each year for books, until they're 18?)

I'm gathering a couple receives 170 Euros a month.
So if we do the math

170 X 12(months) X 18(years) that couple receives 36720 Euros.

That's about $57,607.05.

1 Euro is equal to 1.56882 American dollars currently.

And Americans are civilized?

Here in New Zealand we have "working for families"

Myself with 2 children receives about $500.00 per mth (4 wks). This is income tested but for me that is about $70,000 per yr.

In a previous thread about pensions (Social Security) it seems that America is not the best place to be when it comes to getting government help benefits.

Sometimes we are, sometimes we're not. But most of us do not believe in hurting others but in helping others. You can't hold us responsible for having a dictator for a president, can you? We Americans are not the NWO, we are the victims of the NWO ... just like 99.999% of (wo)mankind.

So, that means that you can earn up to about $70,000 and still receive $500/mth?

That's great.

Here in America the government doesn't go out of its way to help. The county government will help single mothers who are not working. And the state government will provide limited health insurance to those not working. And the national government will pay limited health insurance for those not working. And the state government will pay unemployment for 3-6 mths ... but after that, it's impossible and many rely upon family help.

Here is America the prison system is in the process of being privatized, and the government pays a single prison guard about $80,000 a year and pays the prison (as I recall about $800-to-$1,200 per bed per day) rather than help an unemployed or homeless person who may steal to live or an abused child who runs away and ends up doing the wrong things for money and/or drugs.

Ok sorry if I wasn't clear enough : when I say "max" I mean maximum income / year to have the right to get 170€ / month until your kids is 3y/o (ie : if a couple have 2 kids and their income / year is more than 38794€ they CANT have the 170€/month).
After your kid is 3+ y/o they change the amount they give you, for 1 kid they give 0€, for 2 kids 120€ (not 180€, I was wrong) , 274€ for 3...until your kid is 20 y/o.
Yes this is when you have a job...or not.
+ they give 272,57 € (checked to be sure) each year to buy school stuffs (books, pens...) until you kid is 18.

Again sorry if I'm not clear enough, my english sucks, feel free to ask anything.

(ATS-ers. IN FRANCE: That's about $118,657 free given you by the government (for 3 kids over about 17 years or so) if your family income is under $60,000 -- or about $7,000 a year free from the government in addition to working salaries.)

(ie : if a couple have 2 kids and their income / year is more than 38794€ they CANT have the 170€/month).
After your kid is 3+ y/o they change the amount they give you, for 1 kid they give 0€, for 2 kids 120€ (not 180€, I was wrong) , 274€ for 3...until your kid is 20 y/o.

Thank you. And, your English is very good – it’s just hard to talk about financial stuff clearly for me.

38794€ = US$60,805 is max annual income to qualify. Hmmm.

After your kid is 3+ y/o they change the amount they give you, for 1 kid they give 0€, for 2 kids 120€ (not 180€, I was wrong) , 274€ for 3...until your kid is 20 y/o

274€ for 3...until your kid is 20 y/o
274€ for a total of 3 kids/mth = 3,288€/yr = US$5,154.05/yr x 20 years = US$103.081

they give 272,57€ (checked to be sure) each year to buy school stuffs (books, pens...) until you kid is 18.

So, if one kid in school from 6-to-20 that’s 14 years = 3,815€ = US$5,980.31

So, the total benefit for 3 school kids for 20 years aged 6 & up is about $103,081 + $5,980 = $109,061.
Plus from age 1-to-3, each kid is 170€/mth x 12mths x 3(yrs) = 6,120€/child = US$9,593 (PLUS one gets to earn up to $60,800 dollars AND STILL get the free $109,061 PLUS the $9,593 (for 1-3 yrs old) = $118,657.

HERE IN THE U.S. when we work, the government gives nothing for our kids.
Thanks so much for helping me with this.
(My math is not so good, but I think I’ve gotten pretty close.)

Merci and Bon Jour (that’s about as much French as I know)

p.s. Any related info on other countries by ATS folks is more than welcome.

Yeah saw a documentary on the "Drugs War" where they have criminalized lot of minor drug offences. So as to get bums on seats. here in NZ they tried privatisation of our prisons failed badly now back with the government department.

Here's a list of Government benefits available here

Unemployment Benefit
Independent Youth Benefit
New Zealand Superannuation
Invalids Benefit
Sickness Benefit
Widows Benefit
Domestic Purposes
Orphans and Unsupported Childs Benefits

The STUPID part is that most of these benefits don't have a time limit. So now we are get second and third generation beneficiaries.

Germany gives benefits for having children because they have a
low birthrate and they need people to reproduce to keep their
population expanding. Its becoming a problem all over Europe.

America doesnt have that problem. The immigrants have enough
kids to keep the population expanding.

so- thats roughly 179 x 12 x 18 = 38,700 euros = ~US$60,000 total /12 = ~ $5,000/yr for each child through high school.
AND- if the child goes to school through 26 years of age, that would be another 8 years, or another $40,000

FOR a total benefit of $100,000.
