While it almost looks like the government's number crunchers are cooking the books so that the politicians don't get blamed for soaring prices, the real answer lies more in economics than politics. I wouldn't think anyone here would be surprised by books. They cook the books on everything from gas prices to war costs to unemployment rates. While it's important for the average American to understand this, it is not necessarily news anymore.
