The Earth is drifting away from the sun

www.pressconnects.com

According to the most recent computer models, by the end of year 2012, the Earth will slowly begin to drift farther from the sun. The expanding orbit will take longer in distance and time to circle the sun. Our "yearly" orbit will no longer be just 365 days, and once the drift starts, every orbit will take longer than the one before it.

If this were true...then why wouldnt the gravity of the Sun pull the Earth into it, rather than the Earth getting farther away?

Burning Fossil fuels doesn't make the Earth lighter. It just changes from solid/liquid to gases. The only way it would make the Earth lighter was if they escaped into space which i don't think they do.

They don't state in the article what they base this "news" on. I googled and couldn't find one single article in any scientific journal concerning this claim. I am not saying that it isn't true or not, but news that big would be all over the internet.

"Every year that goes by, millions of tons of coal and millions of barrels of oil are burned. Nothing is left but ashes, soot, and gases, and there is nothing to replace it. Once burned, it's gone forever." Is two lines from this article which, is the only thing I can find that they are using to support their claim that the earth is as they state "getting lighter and lighter in weight."

No offense but this sounds like hogwash to me

My thoughts?

The author of this article is an idiot.

Al Gore will now be replaced by a better idiot.

We no longer need Global Warming to scare the population using junk 'science'.

The author will be the next Nobel recipient.

Come on, first year chemistry or first year physics will both disprove this. There is no loss of matter. Matter cannot be created or destroyed except for nuclear reactions (as alanbmac said). Burning is not a nuclear reaction.

Sheesh, what's next? Is the earth gonna be flat again?

This is indeed true...

It's called Obliquity right?

Although this process takes 10,000 years to reach full effect.

Earth drifting 'away' from the Sun?

Well, two birds with one stone, eh?

Solves Global Warming, and gets us closer to Mars in the meantime!!

Wow, this is so great, I can't wait.

Hope the Moon comes with, since it's either a natural phenomenon (99.99 percent most likely) or it is an alien artifact, a 'space station'....and I definitely want to go visit the soon-to-be built NASM to show us the preserved Apollo landing sites.....

You be the judge!

So they think by 2012? Maybe this is going to be the big 2012 we are all waiting for? I’m just curious, will the moon move with us, or will that be left behind, or is that already moving further away from earth?

Mikey

EDIT: LOL, I posted this just as you said it was an April Fools joke, oh well.... But isnt the moon really moving away?
