How would one volunteer?

How would one volunteer for space exploration? I wouldnt require pay, just the accomadations and food and the chance for glory by being the 1st person past the moon or farther into space.

They don't exactly take volunteers (unless they have special programs, such as the one where McAulliff (sp?) as a teacher went up...see Challenger disaster...)

Since then, it isn't likely...but if you're a multi-millionaire, Russia might do it, hehe....

Maybe when we get to the stage of colonization, they'll ask, but for now, you're best bet is to join the airforce, become an astrophysicist or engineer, and gear yourself towards NASA....

To be honest i dont think you really can unless you have loads of money...or train to be in Nasa!

im sure somewhere out there there is a list...but Who knows!!

go to school and try to get as many qualifications in the areas which they need the most or with the most importance to a space program and then if you got all of those go to NASA or a supporting group. Or if in Europe you might trying to go to the Esa.

I would recommend becoming a high ranking Airforce test pilot with advanced degrees in engineering and math first.

Any adult man or woman in excellent physical condition who meets the basic qualifications can be selected to enter astronaut training.
For mission specialists and pilot astronauts, the minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree in engineering, science or mathematics from an accredited institution. Three years of related experience must follow the degree, and an advanced degree is desirable. Pilot astronauts must have at least 1,000 hours of experience in jet aircraft, and they need better vision than mission specialists. Competition is extremely keen, with an average of over 4,000 applicants for about 20 openings every 2 years.

I would love to "volunteer" if they would ever start doing that.

To go out there and see space first hand.. priceless !

i think if ur piloting a few billion bux worth of machinery to another planet, becoming a world icon and being into history forever, they want some with some creds. some, of course, means a lot.

my Girlfriend's cousin is a current Astronaut, maybe he could pull some strings...


He's scheduled as Shuttle Commander for STS-115, the last we heard it's supposed to be sometime late this year or early next year, we're going down to FL for the launch !

If you get that 50 million or so together. You may be able to buy a shuttle from NASA on Ebay soon.

To volunteer for sitting in a tincan ontop of millions of liters of explosive and very exploding liquid oxygene right into the dark void of the kosmos..... That requires a kind of people most people would consider crazy....

I wouldnt have to fly or anything. I could just be the gopher or the whatever person. Is there an age window for this. i am 31 now by the time i get all those degrees and certification and training time in , i may be too old for space.
