I have never really paid much attention to earthquakes as they don't affect me directly where I live, but hasn't their been an unusually large amount of them worldwide lately? Maybe I am just more aware of them because I am watching the news more due to the satellite shoot down. Any earthquake specialists here?

This is the first site I go to to check on earthquakes. They have world and US maps. Earthquakes happen every day and can happen where you wouldn't expect them to. It's no biggie. Just the way the Earth moves.

Definetly not an earthquake specialist!:-) But i have the same feeling, i hear somehow about earhtquake or two a day, in different sources, for a week or so. Not only in my area, worldwide. And someone told me that moon eclipse magnifies chances for major earthquake so maybe that's why mass media, and as a result me and you as consumers of it, are more sensitive to earthquakes. At
earthquake.usgs.gov...
there are and were several earthquakes/day,so i really think that mass media is pushing these stories more, awaiting something.

edit:
My link became obsolete

185 earthquakes in a week?
Wow, I had no idea there were that many. Most of them are classified as weak though. I bet people in Cali. or Alaska wouldn't even notice a 5.0 quake
