Dallas Suburb Bans Renting To Illegal Immigrants

www.cnn.com

Illegal immigrants cannot rent or own homes in Farmers Branch, Texas, under an ordinance the city's council passed Tuesday night.

Immigration policy sparks a debate outside a 2006 Farmers Branch, Texas, City Council meeting.

The measure requires the Dallas suburb to check a renter's legal status with the federal government.

"The federal government will verify if the person is in the country legally," Mayor Pro Tem Tim O'Hare said. "If not, we will notify that person as well as the landlord in writing that they do not have the right to be in the country."

What a mess we have.

Is it right to not let them have a place to live once they're here? Are we not causing a bigger problem by throwing them out of the homes or apts, causing them to become homeless and possibly turning to crime to get by?

What is the answer?

The government is obviously not going to do anything about the illegal invasion, so the American people must.

Yes a turn to crime or move to a state that will allow it.

Farmers Branch city council is just making this someone elses problem to deal with.

They're already bringing crimes and violence here, as if America hadn't already had its fair share already.

Honestly, I don't care where you're from, if you're not a legal resident, you're breaking the law and you shouldn't be awarded in any shape, form or fashion for it A criminal should be treated just as that, a criminal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning allowing illegal immigrants into the country. I personally would like to see the borders tightened up or even closed.

Sorry,
I have to back the measures that Farmer's Branch has taken in this regards.
I would have preferred that they had included the business part of the bill which would have required that businesses verify that an employee or new hire was here legally.
I live just a few miles north of FB and I have seen and experienced the decline in property values, the increase in crimes, the increased wait time in the ER's, (note, if you need Er treatment, do not use RHD) due to the number of illegals waiting to have their coughs looked at.

In the past 2 years, my cars have suffered 6 separate accidents caused by illegals (note, none with insurance or even legal driver's licenses). 4 of the accidents, totaled my vehicles. One of the accidents illegals were using a company truck (lawn care), none of the occupants were in the US legally, none had licenses, no one was arrested, and oh, by the way.... they left the country back to Mexico ( this comes from their employer) 2 days later.

Sorry, I have very little sympathy for people who completely ignore the laws of this country, who play the race card every chance that they can, who claim that their breaking the law does not make them criminals.

They are attempting to redefine the words criminal and illegal, just as Bill cClinton redefined the word "sex"

I've seen this before in the news regarding another township that tried something like this. It was overturned by the courts.

Same thing will happen here.

Cities nor States can mess with HUD and Fair Housing and Opportunity Act.

Personally, I think that we should pull our troops out of all of these foreign nations, and place them on our national borders and ports of entry. Of course, all I have to say, if we're going to lock down on our southern border, then we had damn well better lock down our northern border as well.

To me, our border issue is more of a security risk than anything else. People want to try and throw the "race" card out there, but, for me, it really has absolutely nothing to do with that whatsoever.

This seems more like pandering to your base and politcal grandstanding than anything else IMHO.

Im a landlord, and before you can rent one of my homes or apartments, I do a credit check. To do a credit check requires a SS# almost everytime. Having a SS# is good enough for me. To expect me to run a federal check each time I rent out a house is a bit much. Now I will grant that we live in teh SF Bay Area so the rent in and of itself is a barrier to many as well, but what next? A 5 day waiting period till you can rent?

This is simply window dressing designed to appease elements within the city. It SOLVES nothing except make some people feel better.

No, no. You didn't read the ordinance. This only applies to new renters. Existing rental agreements are not affected by this ordinance. Aside from that, the original ordinance they passed last year (75% voted yes) is still hung in the courts. This one won't be enforced until the first one is settled.

So the people that own, pay the mortgage, pay the property taxes, maintain the property can't decide for themselves what is the best dispensation for their own property? I don't care much for this style of government intrusion!

Wow, we will need a whole new branch of govt. overseeing how people use their private property, what they can buy, what they can sell, how to think; what's wrong with this picture?

It's a brave new world, welcome to the monkey house.

Why yes, it is right, they refused to follow United States Law by properly entering the country and that is why they are called Illegal Immigrants. They alread broke the law and if you were not aware, many of them carry packages for various smuggglers (drugs, guns, forced prostitutes) when they do cross the border which is how they pay the Coyote that escorts them.

Well, there certainly doesn't appear to be a problem there if you enforce the law. They will be forced to move on. Try this on, you should experience the effect when they live 15-30 in a one bedroon apartment or home like I have seen them do in the Los Angeles area.

Originally posted by elevatedone.... and possibly turning to crime to get by?

Let's see ...
1) they definitely committed a crime by entering the country illegaly.
2) They most probably committed a crime by carrying Drugs or Guns across the border.
3) where they live with so many people in a home or apartment they are most likely violating housing occupancy laws by serious overcrowding.
4) it's a good possibility that they are breaking into your neighbors cars at night to get stuff to sell to the pawn broker.
5) in schmexico, littering is not a crime, so they really don't care about how clean your neighborhood is, oh they'll clean your gardens ... then drop their food waste in front of your neighbors house as they drive away.
6) Some Illegal Immigrants run small prostitution rings by bringing other illegal immigrants to the United States and force them into a life of prostitution so they can take the money you just paid to that illegal immigrant that just cleaned your gardens, dropped his personal trash down the block and stole your neighbors belongings off the front seat of their car while headed back to the two bedroom house where he lives with eighteen other illegal immigrants.

I find this to be a step in the right direction for the US illegal immigration problem. Hopefully more citys and states follow suit, and stop illegal immigration at its source, rather then hopeing a fence will stop anything.

Well if you dont rent to illegals then you have nothing to worry about. As a tax payer I just can not justify giving Illegals food stamps, welfare, medical assistance as they are NOT US CITIZENS.

If they cant find a place to rent then go back to mexico . I say we close off the borders and kick out every Illegal in the USA. The fruit orchards not far from where I live has its own housing complex for the mexican workers and 80% of them are Illegals and they have 8-12 people living in a 3 bedroom unit.

The Majority of the money they make is not spent in the USA it goes back to Mexico. I say we just put a $50 bounty on their heads and see how long it takes for them to leave the good ole USA.

Yeah call me a racist or a scumbag , I am getting tired of the Illegals claiming they have the same rights as I and they are not even Legal US citizens.

The only thing that will really stop it, even this probably won't completely eliminate the problem, is the militarization of our national borders..

Thing is, the problem is not solely Hispanic.. To me, I couldn't care less where they are from. To me, if one is to assume that there is really a"war on terrorism, " the whole idea of "open borders" is fool hardy. Yet, that is what Bush, McCain Shrillery clinton and others suggest we maintain, an "open borders" policy.
It's beyond ignorant in my honest opinion.

NAFTA

Even our own Government wants the Illegals to "come on in."

Just hire Blackwater mercs to patrol the border and watch the influx of Illegals drop.
A few may need their bodies moved with a forklift due to lead content.

Edit: Removed censor circumvention.
