Gambling Web Site Taking Bets on Global Warming

An MIT meteorologist said three years ago that he would bet money that global average temperatures would cool back down in 20 years.

The quote triggered a flurry of Internet dialogues and prompted scientists to challenge each other to make bets on climate-change issues.

One scientist took the wagering meteorologist, Richard Lindzen, up on his bet, but the deal fell apart over a disagreement about odds.

Believers and skeptics alike, put your money where your mouth is.
A little punt now and then is good for you. Surely this is much easier than picking the winner of the Kentucky Derby, or the Melbourne Cup. Just remember, horse sense is why horses don't bet on what people are going to do.

Look at some of the betting propositions to see just how zany the entire subject has become.

You know, I've never really understood the point in gambling, so I do not
understand why people would actually place wagers on Climate Change.

I wonder if this is primarily something that will be done primarily by
Americas, seeing as we seem to be the only civilized country where
climate change is not considered human augmented by the majority
of the population and there respective governments.

So anthropogenic global warming is not agreed to as fact by the majority of the citizens in the U.K?

Many do, that's true, but I don't. I didn't realize how smart people are in the U.K.
As far as betting, the best bookmakers I've seen are in the U.K and Australia. Bookmaking is illegal in the U.S. except for a few states. The bookmaker cited in the story actually operates from Costa Rica, and it is against U.S. law to place an internet wager with them. I bet on British/Australian horseracing legally through a U.S. based T.A.B.
