As if the flashing banner ads weren't enough.......

The flashing ads were bad enough, but I could scroll down past them and they were "out of sight, out of mind". This new audio assault is killing me. I generally listen to music on the computer while browsing the web, and it's generally pretty loud. Then this "Congratulations!..." crap suddenly comes screaming out of my speakers to "harsh my groove", as it were.

I'm certainly not trying to tell anyone how to run their board, but I think audio ads should be disallowed. They don't even have good sound! Just the tinny computer voice. I think just as many ads would be sold without allowing these horrendous abominations.

It took me a while to even figure out the source of these audio ads.

I originally thought I had some sort of virus or something.

I agree there should be a setting that can mute a webpage from producing audio.

Let's make a petition to get rid of the audio ads on ATS and BTS!!

I just opened a page, and got TWO of those ads, about a half-second apart, so they overlapped! Now I have to listen to that crap TWICE ?

Man, I came here to rant about this very thing. I'm glad I scanned down first. There is this stupid free game type of banner on right now that has hijacked my laptop more than once. I keep stalling out, then I get this scripts error. I want to throw my puter through a freakin wall it is running so crappily now. Put me down for the petition. In the years that I have been here, this is by far THE WORST thing that has happened to me on ATS. I'd sure hate limiting my visits in order to keep my blood pressure down.

I seems strange to go to all the effort to design a classy looking site and then have it ruined with tacky ads.

I'm in! Something like this is enough to make me leave ATS. There must be some kind of adblock for Firefox that will block these audo ads.

Perhaps if we asked the politely asked the Super-Mods for the web source of the ads, we could manually enter them in the blocker. I'm not sure how to find the site unless the audio is embedded, but hidden on the page. In that case one could 'view source' and then find it.

I guess I touched a sore spot here. That petition is starting to acquire a lot of names (if 8 can be considered a lot). More response then to any other thread I started!

Now they want to give me a "free i-phone". I wonder if anyone has ever gotten this so-called "free ______", whatever the lure du jour is. I doubt it. It's probably some kind of.....of......of.......conspiracy!!

Those ads are still babbling annoyingly, it seems more often now.
It makes me want to.......

according to those ads, I should already have a warehouse full of free Ipods and laptops. btw the banner of 'crazy videos' bothers the hell out of me. It's not entertaining in the least.

You know... I didn't even know this thread existed until I tested some new code on BTS.

There is a process for letting me know about offensive ads... and we have removed them in the past.

There's no need to rant-away... do something... let me know.

Yeah, I like the 'Rant' section and I think mostly -everyone- in this thread and in that section realizes, or should that it's GOOD to beyotch and moan about stuff (if you keep it light and humorous).

Like I HATE John Basedow.
