I wonder what uses this could help us with?

Apparently the URL tags will not allow a hyperlink to contain an equals sign or even a url statement. Anyhow...that link works...then new one.

Ok, cool.

Very interesting article.

It does make me wonder if some day we'll have matter-energy
teleporters like in Star Trek.

Also, to add, another source for this story can be found at;
Physorg.com.

makes my feeble mind ponder, If something like this...
where Light is getting shoved into or encapsuled into atoms,

is a way that Black Holes might operate,
instead of the generally accepted theory
that gravity becomes so intense that 'Light' itself
cannot break out of the BH grip.

freeze-dried Light, in a sense

this statement is interesting..

"The first time I read this paper, I didn't believe it," says Michael Fleischhauer, a theoretical physicist at the University of Kaiserslautern in Germany. "Even though theory tells us it should be possible, actually doing it is something else."

in theroy it should be possible....how many more things ..'in theory' are possible....if it possible in theory........

could there be two line of physics??? one for the public and one that is ...umm..'private'????

I always love when scientist do these experiments, they say" the information reached its destination before it got there." Does that mean things can go faster then light ?

things = energy

Seems to me like time travel might be incredibly more possible than I first thought, wow, I can't imagine what we'll have in 100 years.
(that is if we make it.)

Just to clarify something here.

They are not making something exced the speed of light.

They are slowing a light/energy beam down soo much that they
can turn it into matter, they than move the matter than turn back
into light/energy.

WhoA! Imagine you could come up with a new way to encrypt data using this discovery!

Hackers will now have to grasp the maths & physics!

Wouldn't Fiber-optic cable be the same thing?

convert light into matter then back to light

light is a medium for 1 & 0's (Fiber) convert the 1 & 0's to matter (an object ony the recipent will understand) then back to light again (back to the fiber)

Imagine the possibilities

Can you clarify your clarification? I was unable to parse your reply.

In fact I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Thanks.

No, I can not, that is the simplest explanation I can give.

They turned the light into matter, moved the matter, than turned it back into light.
