"What has former vice president Al Gore done for the country of his birth lately?

The 1995 Gore-Chernomyrdin protocol, inked out in secret, a protocol which Russian officials believe permits continued military sales to Iran.

The clock moves ahead to 2005 and Gore’s proverbial chickens have come home to roost.

According to Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin, "Russia has signed a deal with Iran to sell 29 of its Tor M-1 anti-missile systems, a development that will complicate any planned pre-emptive attack on the rogue nation’s nuclear facilities."

www.canadafreepress.com...

This is a pretty interesting angle on the insanity that ran the US back in the 90's. Why isn't Gore in prison for treason? Or just for being a nut case.

The real issue is if Irans nuke ranting is really for peace why protect it with the Tor M-1 system? If the IAEA validates the peaceful nature or the Iranian program there is nothing to fear.

Here's some info on this anti-air missile system.

www.defense-update.com...

It's pretty deadly, with a 95% chance of success, capable of tracking 48 targets, and engaging 2, including ability to engage very low flying aircraft.

However it is no S-400 for long range attacks against enemy aircraft...especially stealth ones.

So it's Ok with you that a know sponsor of terrorisim has the means to melt down your bedroom? To destroy every metallica CD you own? To stop all live concerts worldwide?

Iran is an Islamic Law based country that does not allow such things. Is that OK too?

I'm not really sure what this Gore thing was, but no secret agreement that administration made with a foreign nation that wasn't enacted into law by the Congress would be binding on this one.

"Whatever" (as stated) is quite a broad generalization..ergo applicable to all nations under this 'blanket', yes?

What the hell does Gore have to do with Russia? The last time i checked he isn't the Russian president. Those things are not 95% accurate, that is just some sales pitch. At least Iran's government doesn't fly planes into buildings and kill their own people.

They know that Bush might attack them so they are just taking measures to ensure they will be able to mount some sort of defense. I don't like Iran at all, i think their government is messed up but they have the right to defend themselves from our terrorist government.

The u.s has been the king-pin in terms of arms sales for years. What about selling Pakistan, or Saudi Arabia arms? Both of these countries have had far more links to terrorism than Iran. Another example of international double standards. What about the u.s selling arms to both Iraq and Iran during the Iran-Iraq war? i.e the Contra affair? When it suits the adminstration it gets swept under the carpet. Someone else profitting? ie. Russia? "upsetting the balance of regional power" Iran has every right to defend itself.

This ‘stems’ from the START 'talks' of 1994.

The original intent of the afore mentioned accord was to limit such 'sales' in the long-term sacrificing the short-term in exchange for US concessions. Russia has effectively abandoned the original agreement (alarmingly denying applicability to NON-conventional weapons and certainly not 'recently' as implied by the original post); the following touches on some info on the general background:

McNair Paper Chapter 2:

….U.S. efforts to deny Iran technology, including missiles, for its NBC weapon programs have met with only minimal success. Russia has made several promises not to aid Iran, in particular the Gore-Chernomyrdin Agreement of 1995, but it has failed to restrict sales or training; in November 2000, for instance, Moscow announced that it would no longer abide by its agreement with the United States limiting the sale of arms--conventional and nonconventional--to Iran. China has promised to stop supplying missiles and dual-use components, but only time will tell whether it stops providing Iran with technical assistance directly as well as indirectly through cutouts. Dealing directly with Iran rather than with its suppliers probably is the more effective route to containing if not stopping Iran's acquisition of NBC weapons.

As annotated by the Mc Nair Paper:

Vice President Albert Gore reached a confidential deal in June 1995 with Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin to exempt Russia from sanctions for selling weapons to Iran in exchange for a pledge to end all deliveries of sophisticated conventional arms by December 31, 1999. In subsequent statements to the press, Russian officials denied this decision had any implications for the provision of un-conventional weapons. Russia, they said, adheres to its international obligations not to proliferate weapons of mass destruction. John M. Broder, "Russia Ending Deal on Arms Negotiated by Gore," The New York Times, November 23, 2000, A1, A20; David Hoffman, "Russian Dismisses Threat of Sanctions," The Washington Post, November 24, 2000, A5.

PLeaser elaborate on this particular point.

I would personally like to hear about a 'leader' and not greedy 'politician' for once.

Fact..Al Gore "blind trust" includes mega shares of the oil company that Chavez nationalized. There have been stories on this website about the abuse of the local indians by this specific oil company shortly before "the hero chavez" nationalized it..........

The shares came from Gores father............from know communist "Armand Hammer" for a shady deal in the senate back in the 50's.

If the USA does not bomb Iran the Germans or Chinese will have to do it.

The world can not allow an unstable government to obtain or posses weapons that they will use in the name of Mohammad (peace be to him) or Allah.

I wonder if you will feel the same when Pharaoh orders the death of millions?
