Would SETI even??

If SETI actually found something, or even if it has, do you think the goverment may restrict what it can release? There may be protocols in which SETI have to report to the goverment before hand?

Because if the goverment is so big on keeping it secret for now, then why would they just allow SETI to disclose all the information in the event they found something. I still believe its a good idea to have SETI, I run SETI@home constantly.

But it just gets me thinking there could be protocols to keep the information in. Which im not really against anyway. SETI may just exist to get people used to the idea?
