Is places one syllable or two? when I pronounce it it comes out play-cess but when I spell it it sounds like one.

Stupid english language!

It is two - don't look at the word - 'hear' it. Sorry for the 'new-agey' sounding 'feel the words, hear them' speech, but seriously it is two.

Pla-ces

You're right, 2. Stupid language? Not really, it's damn difficult though. We have to take it every year through school. In Canada French(other official lang.) is optional. Though after learning English it makes learning any other language difficult.

Ok, in the second haiku you posted the second line has eight syllables. I sure hope you submit that one to the judges.

even bad haiku can beat good haiku if the good haiku has too many syllables

Wupy

edited to add: So far i've got a dozen written. My plan is to write maybe eight more and on thursday night I will choose my favorite two and submit them. I'll also submit the rest in a seperate post so everyone can enjoy the hell of my writing

Hey I've read worse -- in fact I've written worse
They certainly don't border on the third worst poetry in the universe.

Now my entry could qualify

Ignorance is bliss to some

(1)
Those who know, debate:
Should we tell them what we know?
They would all panic.

(2)
They don't want to know.
Their eyes, ears, and minds are closed.
They just walk away.

Just a comment. I think it’s terribly nifty that MrDog is followed by Amiga_de_los_Gatos.
