Jedi

The jedi philosophy is a lot like eastern Zen Buddisum and other types of self-elightenment. The POWERS of a Jedi are in only a very very very small few (in SW) and all of them need training to focus those powers. The lightsaber is a tool created by the jedi to help focus those abilities.

The best guess i can think of the lightsaber blade is beam of energy that is projected out and looped back to the saber. much like the energy arcing between 2 eletrodes, but much more refined and controlled.

But without the training of a jedi to block blaster fire and bullets, it is nothing more then a fancy sword with a wightless and laser sharpe blade.

But without the ability to use the force jedi are nothing more then hapless philosophers
