Congress has approved a $150,000,000 bill to aid Pakistan in the War against Terror. The United States has also promised to provide $600 million per annum to Pakistan over the next five years. These sales are in recognition to Pakistans effective War on Terrorism.

The US Congress has approved $150 million Foreign Military Financing (FMF) for Pakistan, as part of $82 billion additional bill in the international war against terror.

The Senate approved the measures unanimously, 100-0; and now it requires signature of the US President George W Bush to become effective. The fifth emergency spending package since 9/11 raises the total cost of the anti-terror war to $300 billion. Most of the additional money is for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, while $4.2 billion goes to foreign aid and other international relations programmes.

Pakistan a traditional buyer of American and Chinese defence equipment has already purchased military systems worth $615 million. Notified defence sales of latest weapon systems and equipment, including P-3C surveillance aircraft and Harpoon missiles, of about $1.46 billion are in the pipeline. These figures do not include the potential sale of F-16s to Pakistan.

The agreement between Pakistan and the USA actually goes a little bit deeper. Pakistan gets paid annually under the bilateral Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement in which they provide logistics and intelligence to U.S. intel.

Also note that last week, U.S. Congress promised to sell Pakistan $226,000,000 in Harpoon Block II missiles and AIM-9M-1/2 Sidewinder missiles.

Sounds like an effective way to fight terrorism.

Remember that selling the harpoons etc is an effective way to fight terrorism. How? The stability of Pakistan is really dependant on Musharref. He maintains his control by keeping the military happy.

If he falls and radical extremist elements take over, think taliban with theatre ballistic missiles and oh BTW a nuclear capacity

Expect that, the US will always need another dragon to slay to keep the corporations making a big buck on war profiteering, and Congress serves those corporations. It may not be tomorrow, but five, ten, fifteen years, twenty years, it will be a "US supports Saddam Hussein - US goes to war against Saddam Hussein" sequel.

I know exactly what you’re saying, and in a way I agree. The thing is, here in the UK (As one of the US's allies, how unfortunate!) we have a huge Pakistani population and there would be civil uproar should the UK help with any US attacks.

All war profiteers should drop dead, immediately. Enough said.

It may be just the way Im thinking but would it not be a much more reasonable to keep the 150mil. here in the U.S. and put it to use in our own HSD? Why in the world must we always take care of other nations while we let ours go to hell? Pakistan could give a shirt less about us while we try to play Big Brother to the world. Why does not Congress approve an aid package for the legal residents of the U. S. who live below the Fed. Standard of poverty and do not know where they are going to find the money to pay their rent.? I've come to the firm conclusion that our govt. is corrupt to the very bone and we are the guniea pigs paying their very way.

Looks like your Government spends your money on arms to foreign nations more than it invests in its own people. What does that say to you?
